When searching for something such as the OBD port I use my digital camera.
Hold the camera under the dash in different areas and take photos.
Then relax and view them on your computer.

"All cars manufactured for sale in the US since 1996 have a OBDII diagnostic port as mandated by federal law. This connector is within 3 feet of the steering wheel and must not require tools to access."
"Normally this port is located just under the dashboard above the gas or brake pedal. It can normally be located by simply looking under the dashboard or running your hand along the bottom edge of the dashboard until you "bump" into the connector."
"There are other instances where the connector is behind a cover panel to make its appearance more appealing. In these cases it's necessary to open that panel to gain access to the OBDII port."
On my 2005 Ford V10 the ODB connector is a few inches to the right of the steering Column and had a black snap cover.

Ford put the OBDII port on the F53 on the right side of the steering column. On mine, I can find it by wedging my hand down the right side of the column between the fiberglass dash to about mid palm. Then it's right by my middle finger. The port has a snap off cover. It is nearly impossible to plug in anything to it and even harder to pull it out. I understand that you can move it by removing a couple of screws and remount it to the Fleetwood dash, but then you'll have to crawl back under there again Why Fleetwood couldn't take the 2 minutes to do that before they covered it is a mystery.

Easy now.... it's on the right of the column as your looking forward from the seat. You should be able to touch it with your hand even if you can't see it. Use the camera trick if you can't find it.

Personally I don't know how much safer it is to just make a head first drop to the pavement. I try to use my head for other things. Next time you try that why not have someone with a a video camera along. You could get $10K for that on Americas Funniest Videos. Than you could hire the job done.
