I recently replaced my engine batteries in my Allegro and now the generator only runs when the engine is running. As soon as I turn the engine off, the generator stops immediately. Sounds like someting electrical. Any suggestions?
Thanks.............Richard

Have you checked the connection between the generator and your batteries. I have a lead that runs from my generator directly into the batteries bay. Just a thought.
The generator usually starts from the "House" battery, not the chassis battery. Is the house battery dead or weak or is it fully charged? I am guessing that it is weak and by having the engine running the alternator is charging it enough so you can start the gen set. When you shut the engine off the alternator quits charging and there is not enough voltage in the house battery to keep it running. Or as a second thought, do you have the battery disconnect switch for the house battery in the OFF position? If so turn it back on. Use a volt meter to check the voltage on you house battery and go from there

Both of the batteries are fully charged. But, when I hit the Aux Start Button on the dash (a momentary switch that sends power from the house batteries to the chassis batteries), it works fine, until I let the aux start button go at which time the generator promptly dies. I should also note that the engine doesn't have to be running, just the key in the on position (ready too start). This is really wierd.
