No, it means the Post Office SAYS they delivered it. You have to purchase Signature Confirmation (additional fee), in order to get the actual recipients signature returned to you on a post card.

I always ship UPS, adult signature required (even if they have one on file with UPS) for large amounts.

You have a part in limbo. It is still yours. It will show up some day. In the mean time I would refund the money. He did not get it or the signature would be there.

If the item is not delivered you owe the buyer a refund, USPS will not cover the item if it is not insured, sorry but you are out.
We in the real world think it would be reasonable to expect USPS to cover the cost if they loose it or damage it but but they will not.
USPS has no minimum standard of responsibility as a private business does.
I once received a photo album from my daughter that was completely destroyed in transit, it was properly packed but you can destroy anything if you try hard enough and they were a overwhelming success at their mission. The item was clearly stamped with damaged in transit but they would not cover the cost.

Would it fit in his mail box?

If it would, it could have been stolen out of his box.

I would have to really give it some thought, if it was small enough to fit in his box.

If they say they delivered it then he may have an insurance claim.

I would first call him and ask if he wants a bill of sale and a discription of the item to turn in to his insurance.

Since he also knew the risks of shipping, he should have asked for it to be insured.

Thanks for all the input, I should hear from him tomorrow to see if he has had any luck with the delivery guy. If not I will refund his money. Bummer.

UPS or Fed?Ex from now on, no more USPS.

wow that just stinks. but if HE GOT it wouldn't he have signed for it and then there was a Delivery Confirmation.

I would still be working on USPS and having it found somehow, be a nuisance. Keep having someone checking on it. that is alot of money.

I had that happen recently, panicked and then thought to check eBay forums and read that USPS has had problems with the DC system updating recently. Sure enough, a few days later it showed delivered.

That being said, I have had a few times when the postman forgot to scan the pkg on delivery but the buyer got it and all was well. You just never know.

Refund his money...by doing so, you are doing the right thing.
Hopefully if he does get it sometime in the future, he will do the right thing and send the payment back to you.

Yes, that's exactly what it means, which is why I got it. But nobody signed for it and the Post Office says "Sorry about that."

Delivery Confirmation is not the same thing as Signature Confirmation which costs more to send a package.

With delivery confirmation the package is scanned by the carrier when delivered or left. Signature confirmation requires someone to actually sign for the item.

Excuse me it is the buyers responsibility to pay for delivery insurance. not the sellers. You shipped it in good faith. Check with PO. but no would not return the $$$.
