Don't know if this is the right place to post this. Just wanted to comment on some dumbs things I've seen campers do over the years. I'll start with the latest, this past weekend while camping at a Michigan State Park, we saw kayaks sitting on top of a brand new Jeep Grand Cherokee, they were on a kayak rack(there were 2 kayaks), they had them tied down in the back, to the rack and they had the front tie down hooked to the grill on their vehicle. Last year we saw a van that had a roof top cargo box strapped down with string. Now I have to share something stupid we did, years ago while camping with the pop-up camper, we forgot to put the back jacks down, good thing there was a cooler underneath that bunk. Usually the most frequent what I call dumb stuff or unsafe are small vehicles towing large trailers - a Jeep Grand Cherokee hauling a 19-21 ft TT, or seeing TT being hauled down the interstate at 75 mph.

Sticking their sewer hose into the faucet to wash it out before storage.
Second thing wrong with that? Letting the water drain all over the patio area for the next unsuspecting camper to hook up his hose and kids play in the hidden sewage.

Several years ago in what was then the KOA in Front Royal, VA. is witnessed a guy with a 5th wheel try to pull out the front jacks still down. He didn't make it very far until they hit coming up onto some concrete. He stopped, backed up AND TRIED IT AGAIN! After all the noise he got out and looked around. The owner helped him cut the inner legs off so he could get it to a RV repair shop.

I've never forgotten that sight and am very careful to ensure all my jacks are retracted before pulling out.

I see this all the time and cannot figure out why.

The temperature is 100+ mid afternoon, everyone is sitting around a huge campfire with the sun shining directly on them.

Another happened today. DW and I were driving a scenic route (Flat Tops Scenic Byway, CO), when we spied a cow elk and two very young calves just a few yards off the road, and the calves were nursing. We stopped, turned off the engine and radio, and stayed very still and quiet, watching and taking pictures. Soon another vehicle came up behind us. I motioned to stay quiet, pointing to the cow and calves. A gentleman got out and started talking to me in a loud voice. A woman leaned out the window and yelled What is it?

The three elk quickly disappeared.

When on some backcountry road, and you see a vehicle stopped in the middle of the road with the occupants looking to the side, you can safely guess there is a wildlife moment and STAYING QUIET AND STILL is a good idea.

something dumb, pulling out with the antenna up or turning left away from the gas pump and ripping the but end of the rv off on the pump barricades.

something anal, leveling the jacks using a 48 inch carpenters level

Arriving 11pm well after quiet hours and doing a complete unhitch when unnecessary (road was clear) and screaming at every one as to what their role is.

CG with small lots. Never fails, I always see one TT encroaching on their neighbor's site by pulling their TT all the way over to the edge of the lot (half way off the edge of the rv pad), and if that isn't bad enough, then they have their slide out so the neighbor can't even use their awning. Yes, I have seen this. Pretty dumb.

I've also seen people rub up against a tree with their TT while backing into their site, what do they do? Yep, they give it more gas - like the tree is going to move!!!

My top 10 list:

1- Buying a RV with a Norcold fridge and keeping the fridge.

2- Buying a RV with a Lippart frame

3- Buying a 20 yr. old RV thinking they got a great deal because it looks like new.

4- Turning on the hot water heater before filling it up and burning out the heating elements

5- Opening their slide right into a tree

6- Leaving the black tank drain open

7- Buying Chinese tires thinking they got a great deal.

8- Buying other than motorcraft filters for their Ford thinking they saved money.

9- Spending a lot of money on a drain hose that will last just as long as a cheap one.

And #10 Listening to NewsW declare he knows everything about everything!

Edit:
Just had to add the rest:

11- Buying new tires JUST because someone said to buy new tires after 5 years.

12- Saying my 1/2 ton truck should pull this.... 20k rig shouldn't it?

13- Putting on a Steer-Safe or other safety unit BEFORE checking out the org. front end for wear and tear.

14- Using the overhead fan when flushing the toilet and complaining about a sewer smell.

15- Asking if LED lights are cooler.

16- Spending big bucks for LED lights sold in the USA that are made in china and can be bought for much less direct from China right from Ebay.

17- Asking about changing a 30 amp service to 50 amp and when they get the right answer ignoring it.

18- Asking which shocks should I buy and getting Koni as an answer but buying whatever is on sale at Camping world.

19- Posting a problem with an appliance and saying the make/model/year and color of their RV when thousands of others use the same appliance.

20- New members asking a question, all of us respond and they never post again...

pray for all the newbees that are making these mistakes. Amen

Just came back from Banff this evening. Crowd on the highway.. Black Bear and a cub up a tree on the side of the road and a crowd of Kids and adults atanding around UNDER the tree taking pictures.
Further up the road a grizzly sow eating grass by the highway.. another crowd standing on the side taking pictures continually getting closer. Saw all this because we had to slow down to a crawl on the highway to get past.
