I have been looking at a 2010 Silverado 2500 HD Z71 6.0 V8 4.1 axle. The truck has 35000 miles and is very clean. I would use for daily work commute and also as TV. My daily drive is 40 miles roundtrip and I average 17 MPG with my 5.4 3.55 F150. Can anyone give me an idea of the type mpg to expect with the Silverado? Any help would be appreciated.

Depending on a lot of factors it could be 10 or 15.

Mine is 3.73 and my 52 mile round trip yields an easy 15 mpg. I could get a little more if I really tried harder.

Towing is around 8.5 mpg with a tall 5er.

It's actually a really decent daily driver / tow rig combo.

This is what I get with my 07 doing 65-75 miles per hour.

Burb 6.0L/3.73: My commute is about 55 miles per day of mixed highway and secondary roads. 15mpg is a pipe dream unless it is all highway at 65-70mph. I got 12.0 new in the cold months, now at 14k miles and warmer I can do a little over 13mpg.

8mpg towing my TT at 72mph, 9mpg at 67mph, and 10mpg at 60mph, all in 5th gear.

With my ExtCab 2011 HD2500 6.0 4X4, got 8 towing our TT at 62 mph on a good day and 12 empty all with the 4.10 rear gears. TT was around 9K or little under. My 2011 CC 4X4 CC 6.6 w3.73 rear gears gives me 11 at 62 mph towing and 15.5-17 1/2 empty. JMHO

Thanks all for the information it is very helpful to get the actual numbers. The tow rating on the 4.1 is 3600# above the 3.73 so that is the axle I would want to get.. I grew up in the post depression era so I love to pinch my pennies. At $3.50/gal if you average 12000 m/y every 3 mpg saves you $600.00/yr. or enough for your insurance and a cup of coffee.
Not to change the subject but I wonder why winter and summer mpg is so different as I also notice on all of my vehicles is it the fuel blends or just the lower temperature of the gas.
