Walmart sells one of those for about $18 in their camping section. I was luck enough to find on at a place called Ocean State Job Lot in Upstate NY a month ago. Funny thing happened.... either the chipmunks or the red tail squirrels chewed through the casing and inner hose one night after we cooked and my son spotted it the next day. Near as i can figure, some grease might have dripped on the hose and they figured it was edible. At least we found out before using it ! I leak tested it and sure enough there is a very small leak.... go figure. I will be putting the replacement one in at night !

I'm not a big fan of this picture. When the trailer is being towed, what is keeping the fitting from moving up and down - from road vibrations. It looks like a pendulum, waiting to swing. I'm concerned that over time a slow leak could form.

What the OP did is basically what is accomplished with Marshall Brass's Extend-A-Flow kit which comes off one of your tanks with a tee. Includes a 12 ft. hose. We've been using this kit with our Weber Q for about 8 years and it works great. The OP's method looks good too and might be cheaper.

RE ‘road vibrations’ and ‘pendulums’, that is 1/4”NPT and the only leverage while traveling is the male Acme fitting....a couple ounces, maybe. I don’t see a problem but if one develops after the 7000Mi we will be doing this Fall I will assuredly Post about it. The biggest potential problem I see with our setup is forgetting to put the black plastic cover over the end of the Acme fitting....it faces forward and that is the only position which provides access for connecting the Grill hose.

Ya, Extend-a-Flow requires wrenching to connect/disconnect and I didn’t want that. My Kludge avoids that by using the new ‘Acme Nut’ fittings. Cost was about $22 plus the Acme Nut equipped extension hose.

Question for anyone here,

Does anybody make a half decent cap to cover those acme fittings? I have been trying to find one for my stuff better than the crappy cap I (and Lew) currently use for crud avoidance. Can't seem to. Those plastic things tanks come with suck.

If I understand the setup correctly, the Tee is inline between the tank and the regulator. So there is only gas available for the grill when the tank has fuel in it. When this tank is empty and the regulator is switched to the other tank there will be no fuel for the grill?

Correct, since the only way to get high pressure gas is before the regulator. There is enough extra pigtail in my setup to switch tanks without moving them so in a pinch (in the middle of Grilling) I can switch pigtails and have the full tank supplying to the other side of the regulator.

I’m going to look into that idea because I have the Acme nut that was part of the pressure gauge gizmo. Like Dakzuki I don’t like the cheesy plastic covers either.
