Has anyone installed one of these for a toad? What are your opinions of them? How do they incorporate the surge accuator with the vehicle's braking system, especially if you have power brakes?

Your questions will be answered if you watch the Redi Brake installation video. I have not used this system and do not know anybody that has. The concept sure seems like a winner to me and the surge brake is something I also like. They have been around for quite some time. Try doing a search for Redi Brake on this board.

I've been using a ReadyBrute Elite tow bar with an integrated ReadyBrake system for several years now. It works well, is simple to maintain, and simple to hook up. The basic operation of the system is that when the coach operator applies the brakes, the toad presses against the tow bar, which then actuates the ReadyBrake lever assembly, which in turn pulls on a cable attached to the toad brake peddle arm, applying the vehicle brakes. The pull on the cable is powerful enough to overcome the lack of the power brake's vacuum booster, although you may find that adding their optional electric vacuum pump provides better braking action. Once the ReadyBrake unit itself is installed, it's easy to test to see if the vacuum pump will help before buying it.

Ours is on a 09 Honda CRV. No brake booster is used and it works fine.

I've used Ready Brake on a Honda CRV for several years and am very satisfied. I bought it because it is the only system that doesn't have multiple failures documented. All the other electronic braking systems have posts detailing how they failed at one time or another. ReadyBrake is so simple and works so well I'm surprised that everyone doesn't use it.

Mine is on order and the Demco base plates should be here today along with a COOL TECH wiring harness for our 2010 Jeep Wrangler.
I've even started with a slight mod, so as to have a quick release for the brake pedal attachment. What they provide works fine, but is of a permanent nature and not necessary when not in tow.

I have used one since 2007 and have towed many thousands of miles trouble free. Not sure I would use any other system. Very simple installation; I installed my own.

I just installed a ready brake on a Saturn vue, it operates as expected, the only challenge I have how much is it applying the brakes in the tow car.
I am still in the learning and adjusting stage of the process but it appears to be doing what it is expected of it.

Two years, about 15 trips, works great. Installed it and the base plate myself, so cost was really good also.

Base plate is installed. Doing the COOL TECH wiring harness today.
When the tow bars and brake stuff arrive I'm also going to use a turn buckle arrangement on the surge brake toad cable to make adjustments simpler.
