Let's hope it's out within 3 weeks. Just a note, we were evacuated because of fires for 12 days back in 2003. A campground down the mountain which is always full was full of evacuated campers. Not sure what happened to the folks who had reservations. We were sure glad it was there but it was our worst camping trip bar none.

And it's not always just about how close the fire(s) are. The way the wind is blowing can ruin a vacation too with smoke and stink from a fire 50 or 75 miles away.

That's a hard call, any part of Colorado right now could catch on fire, it's that dry here. If it were I, I wouldn't cancel my trip.

We currently have 9 fires burning in Colorado, the most recent and now the most critical is the Waldo Canyon fire in Colorado Springs. It started Sat. and is now 6500 acres between Manitou Springs, Garden of the Gods, and Crystola. It has become the #1 priority in the U.S. because of the direction it is moving. As I type this, it has burned over a ridge and is moving toward Shadow Mountain and Peregrine neighborhoods. If you have ever been to the Flying W Ranch, that is the area. Hwy 24 west to Woodland Park is closed. DON'T come to C/S area expecting anything other than SMOKE everywhere. The Ft. Collins area isn't much better. Several homes were burned in Estes Park over the weekend. I would NOT come to Colorado for the next month or so as you will NOT enjoy it!

No one can predict from day to day where the fires will be. We have heavy smoke each morning here in Loveland from the fire north and west of Ft Collins. Now we have another large fire going just west of Boulder and several thousand people have been evacuated. This fire was started by lighting this afternoon and was soon at more than 300 acres.
I'm sorry to say but this summer is not a good year to visit Colorado.
We have missed our two last trips into the Red Feather Lakes area because of the High Park fire and the threat of road closures.
We are not planning anything until fall that involves camping in the Colorado mountains.
We have been chased out of our camping site on two occasions in the past because of forest fires and that tends to take the fun out of camping. The last time was at Glendo Lake in Wyoming when the Ranger came and told us we had to be out of there in 5 minutes as the fire was only 1000 yards from us. I didn't even get to finish my Margarita which I had just made!

Sorry to hear about the good folks in Colorado having to deal with these fires. Last year in Texas we suffered a major drout and the wildfires were pretty bad.
