Paul, subscribing to Groupon and Living Social in areas you are traveling is helpful. Restaurant.com also lists events as well as dining discounts. Hope this helped a little.

The departments of tourism of the various states generally have quite informative websites.

If you have a smartphone, download the tripadvisor free app. It has a "near me now" feature for attractions and dining. We use it a lot!!!!

Here's a good site with links to all of the official state tourist websites - http://www.usa.gov/Citizen/Topics/Travel-Tourism/State-Tourism.shtml

And as already suggested Tripadvisor - http://www.tripadvisor.com/

Also click on the Attractions Maps link in my signature. I started making the maps (36 so far ) so that I could plot our route to take advantage of interesting attractions along the way.

We use Road Ahead and Around Me to find fuel, food and banks, etc. Just found the Diners, Drive-ins and Dives apps. So I don't have to keep writing down the fantastic places to eat from the Food Network. Now, we can search them out as we go.

Most cities and towns either have a website or a chamber of commerce with a website. Try those.
