To everyone owning a GM Truck or SUV.
I found an article on brake problems on these vehicles.

http://www.insideline.com/chevrolet/silverado-2500hd/feds-investigating-6-2-million-gm-vehicles-for-possible-brake-problem.html

The ABS on my '03 Suburban 2500 had been acting up a little here and there. Still had brakes, until Sat. 6-23-12. I returned home and parked the burb. The ABS kicked in when I stopped in the gravel. I got out to see if the tire slid in the stones. It did not. I jumped in the burb and pressed on the brake pedal the whole way to the floor. It shot out the last of my brake fluid. I had none left. I made my last stop in my drive way Thankfully. I had plans to take my mother and my 2 daughters (1 and 3 years old) to a family reunion the next day. What a wreck that would have been. My wife wanted to go camping that weekend. That would have been a complete disaster with my TT behind me. I am letting everyone know this because these brake lines have been reported to just burst at normal driving conditions. I hope no one else is having this issue. Check your brake lines GM owners.

Not a bad idea to replace brake lines after 7 years.

Is it the rubber or metal part that was gone?

The steel lines rot out. The ones on my 40K mile 1500 look like they're close to popping as well. The rest of the underside is almost factory fresh

Those pic's are really ugly and any owner who saw that would have done something about it IMO. Gas and Go comes to mind, I'd love to see maintenance records
No excuse GM should correct it.

Yep I have replaced many rusty brake lines and not just on GM`s, Ford, Chrysler, Honda, Toyota, BMW, Benz and all the others! regular safety inspections would reveal safety issues such as these! Yes they shouldn`t rust, but they rust out sooner when the vehicle is parked on dirt/gravel due to the moisture that the truck soaks up.

Wonder if there is electrolysis going on

Especially with more and more electronics on the braking system

If lactational associations...then road salts might be an accelerating catalyst

Am assuming these are plated, right?

Noticed in some of those pic's has the frame also rusty

I've rebuilt vehicles before and saw localized rot like that. They were all 'touching' other metal parts 'around there'

Any one have the NHTSA's report ?

OK how long should the manufacturers have to cover brake lines? I have a 2004 with 130,000+ miles and if one of my lines rusted out I would not except Chrysler to cover it. As a matter of fact I'm going to replace all of the rubber lines when it goes down for injectors.

To think any manufacturer should cover this past the normal warranty is just ludicrous IMO. It is your responsibility to inspect you vehicles. If anything you may have a ***** against the person doinge your oil changes. Most include a x number part safety check right? Does not look like they did their job to me.

NewsW: my metal lines are rusted and burst. The burb only has 46k on it. It may be almost 10 years old but thats not long enough IMO. Its a 2003 model. Not a 1950s. I think we are a little more advanced today then yesterday with engineering and materials. At least I thought so.

This is relatively old news and it isn't just happening to GMs either. I have a buddy that had a nice Ford Excursion and was backing his boat down into the water when the brake line burst and sprayed brake fluid on the exhaust and caught fire. He was able to get the fire out and save the Excy, but he almost lost it. Mom & Dad had a brake line bust on their 2000 Silverado a few years back while towing their camper. Since it was only a few miles, Dad nursed him home with just trailer brakes.

If people would do an inspection to their vehicles once in awhile instead of like the other guy said a "gas & go" there wouldn't be these problems and you wouldn't see most of the vehicles sitting along side the road broke down.
