If it is a huge selling point when I get rid of it I can always add at that point as it comes wired and plumbed for one so adding it would not be that big of a deal.
I rarely boondock, almost always take full hookups when available, and have been grateful for my gen-set on at least 4 different occasions. All but one were due to power outages at various campgrounds, twice in mid summer heat. With 2 young kids and 2 dogs having power while everyone else scrambled to deal was extremely convenient.
So. I'd have to disagree.

A 2K Honda or Yamaha for under a grand would be a nice addition for emergency power at home or while traveling and quieter and more fuel efficient. I have a Honda and unless I need the A/C thats what We run 90% of the time. We boondock well over 90% of the time so I would not be without a genny. The little Honda has run for a few hours at home during power outages, but I could fire up the Onan if needed.

I would never consider a toyhauler that did not have a generator. Automatic disqualification for consideration.

better to have it and not need it ...... than to need it and not have it.
So glad to have one built in now .... had one built into my tow vehicle that I had to drag a cord and plug into .... plus had to go the gen to start and turn it off. Was a pain.

Dang some of you are tuff!
I have a 1 ton dually diesel so I am not anywhere near my capacity. But why elect to carry extra weight with a genset that wont ever be used???
For many of the reasons mentioned above??
Just sayin

We own a generator, but have not once taken it camping, nor have we ever wished we had it in over 30 years. It sits in our stick house garage and only gets used very rarely when the power fails.

My brother didn't think he needed one either until he spent 3 days in 100 degree temps and poring rain without one. We were on vacation together in NC. and had a heck of a thunder storm come up from nowhere Battery power is fine for lights and such, but it wont run your a/c .
They wound up crashing in with us just to keep cool and use the microwave to zap some dinner for themselves.
Yes I think a genny can be very handy to have. I feel better to have and not need, than need and be screwed lol. Either built in or portable, doesn't matter.

It sounds like if there was a really major power failure, then you can just unhook and drive home, and then return when the problem was over. Running empty your truck might use a couple hundred dollars of fuel, but it would take a couple of dozen weather catastrophes to pay for the generator.
