It seems like it would be the same as tap water at home, but I wanted to make sure. Water sitting in the tank seems like it could be bad. I was also going to get one of those Brita water filters.

Or does everybody just use bottled water?

You are going to get different opinions on this.

We use the water from our holding tank for all purposes.
I also make sure the holding tank is cleaned and sanitized regular.

What rv2go says. But if we get skunky campground water DW brings bottled water for coffee, drink mixes, and ice.

Depends on where we are and the water source.

Majority of time....YES. We drink the water....from our tank or from outside supply.

In SW USA (TX, AZ, NM) were water source is very hard we use a portable water softener to minimize scaling but drink bottle water.

And we have run into a couple of places were the water smelled.....so used our tank or bottled water.

Our fresh water tank ALWAYS has water in it.......roadside potty breaks and for those just because needs.

So it depends........

Yes you can drink from the fresh water tank. Although as evidenced on this forum, many people feel uncomfortable with that.

I do drink from the tank but I also make sure to sanitize the water system at least once if not twice a year. I also drain the tank after use and before putting the trailer back in storage.

We use a whole house filter at the campground faucet and a separate filter under the sink with it's own faucet dispenser.

We drink from our holding tanks. We also dump out what we don't use at the end of a trip so it doesn't sit.
This past weekend we filled up at the campground we were at. Mistake this time as the water was white (opaque with a white tinge). I refused to drink from it, but we did use it for washing and showering. For just such an occasion, we carry a 3-gallon bottle in our trailer and a 1 gallon bottle in our truck. Came in handy!

We carry bottled water for drinking, but have no qualms about drinking from our tank, as it's sanitized twice a year, and drained after every trip.

Use the water for cooking or showering only. Beer is for drinking.

We drink the tank water always. We also check cg water for taste and smell before we fill the tank, and if it seems off, we stay on internal water. I removed the whole system filter as it dropped water pressure drastically, regardless of which filter element we used. We never sanitize the tank as we use the rig spring, summer, fall and winter, but we do drain the tank occasionally. Been operating this way for the past 9 years and 2 rigs without any problems.
