I have a 2005 Onan 4KY series generator that has been running fine, except recently it started to make an intermittent clicking/ticking sound, but still ran. However, on this trip while it was running it suddenly just stopped and will not restart. There is an error code of 36, which seems to indicate a fuel problem, but the motorhome fuel tank is full. To all of the Onan wizards on RV.Net, do I have a bad fuel pump, or is there something else I should be looking at? Any/all help will be appreciated.

The ticking sound.........sounds like a dry fuel pump to me.....my guess is you have a fuel line problem......possibly back at the tank....
Try running the genny from a portable gas can.....disconnect the fuel line that goes to the pump and stick in in the gas can....
If it runs fine then look closer at the rubber fuel lines.....

If your Onan 4KW is similar to ours, it has a start switch with a prime function at the generator. Holding the prime side of the switch will run the fuel pump without cranking the starter so you can hear whether the pump is working. A working pump makes a buzzing or humming type sound.
