Got a '12 Ram Laramie Crew Cab w/ 5.7. Rear end is 3.55. Trying to find out tongue limit. There is general information on the bumper cover for general towing with what looks like the limits for a ball attached right on the bumper. The truck has a Class IV Hitch installed. Ram Site states can tow up to 8500. Wont go near that with the new TT but just don't know what the tongue can hold w/ a WDS. Thinking of a front kitchen and they are a bit heavier up front. Any help is appreciated.

Weight Distributing Hitch will have no effect on the allowed tongue weight. It may just make towing the TT more stable.

As said above. Can't say about Dodge, but most vehicles have tongue weight spec of 10% of tow weight. Thus, if so, your spec is 850#. Using 13% of total weight on tongue, your max FULLY LOADED TT weight would be 6,538#. Most add AT LEAST 1000# over dry weight, so you are looking for a TT UVW of no more than 5,536#

Hope that helps.

jimmyriley......The whole idea of the WD hitch is to eliminate the tongue weight on vehicles that can't handle the tongue weight like SUV's and half ton trucks. The WD hitches generally come with a couple of different spring bars. In general terms, if you get a 1000 pound spring bar, you can adjust the arms by moving the chain links up or down to help distribute that much weight.

No.

The tongue weight does not change by using a WD hitch. If you have 1000 pounds of TW, you will reduce the load on the truck's axles by about 25% with a WD hitch, so only 750 pounds on the truck's axles. But TW is still 1000 pounds which is what the receiver rating is for.

jimmyriley ,
I answered in your other thread. This area is more appropriate, though. Please do not double post.
