We are toying with the idea of replacing our stovetop/oven with a washer/dryer combo. Y'all probably think we're crazy but we never use the oven and rarely the stovetop. In fact not once since the first of this year. If we can't micro, toaster oven, outside grill, George, or go out, guess we'll go hungry! We've been workamping for a year now almost full time and have used laundromats. The campground where we are now has 9 washers for 1000 sites...500 temps and 500 permies. Hard to get to one and the nearest laundry is 30 miles away.

Wanted to get your opinions on these machines as they are expensive but on the other hand sometimes convenience pays for itself especially if they work well etc. We have an RV guy here in town that can do the installation. It would have to be wired into the water heater breaker so we would have to use gas when we used the washer. So do you like 'em, use 'em, reccommend a brand etc.? Thanks, Skip

Do you have a 30 or 50 amp coach? I think that would really make a difference if you can't run the AC while using the W/D.

Talk to others, we had a combo unit in our 2008 MH, small loads, took forever to do a load and clothes were wrinkled. New MH has stacked separate units much better.

Save your money

Would never buy another coach without one! We have a Splendide.

Pros -
Does a terrific job washing. Uses little water and little detergent. Small and convenient.

Cons -
Requires a very SMALL load if it's going to dry properly. We tend to hang our shirts/pants out to dry whenever possible, so we can do a larger load. Sometimes FOLDING clothes before drying helps a lot! (TRUE)

Suggestions -
ONLY consider a vented model, as the un-vented versions are even WORSE when it comes to drying.
Keep up with the laundry every day, or you'll become frustrated with the small load capacity.
Use the express wash setting, if your's has it. The cycle is much shorter and it cleans perfectly.

I have the combo unit and love it, but you need to understand it's limits. Small loads, and takes lots of time - for 1 or 2 people - great - large family - maybe not so much. And yes, definitely a vented unit. You would have to measure your space, is it plumbed, electric outlet?? Not sure about having the w/d under a lp stovetop?

Ours will do 4 pair of jeans in a load and if you take them out and spread them on the bed as soon as the dryer stops it minimizes wrinkles.

Splendide is the brand and the vented model is the way to go.

Everything has been said above but I really like mine. I get up every morning and start it. So pretty much do a small load a day when we have full hookups.
Probably wouldn't be much good during boondocking as it uses a bit of water and would empty your water tanks and fill up you grey water fairly quickly.
We also rarely use the stove as our microwave is also a convection oven which the DW has come to love.

You should be able to find a slightly used one for 1/2 C Worlds price. Try and find a vented Splendide 2100. Here is what you can often find on CraigsList.

We do have a 50 amp coach, would eliminate the stovetop & oven and there only 2 of us. The RV guy in town here says theres no problem to do it (he has a great reputation around here...we're in Urbanna VA right now). Sounds like a plan and can order a Splendide from PPL and get free frt for $1187 and have it delivered to the RV guy.
