How do you get a non road legal toy (like an ATV) from a CG to the trails without trailering them? Is this just one of those times you have to take your chances on getting pulled over or do you stay somewhere as close to a trailhead as possible?

You trailer them, find a campground along the trail, or find another location. It does our sport no good when somebody breaks the law because its convenient.

I allways carry ramps, then load into back of truck and take to trailhead. Usually two trips. One time I asked a warden if I could just pull the 4 wheeler with tow strap the short distance (1/4 mile) and he said it was okay by him.

Don't take a chance. We once rode our non-street legal dirt bikes across a highway to get from one trail to another. A highway patrolman saw us and luckily didn't give us a ticket... but we did get a stern warning. He said it would have been ok if we had walked them across.

I would trailer them to the trail head and make sure the trailer is locked to the truck and the truck has an alarm. Thieves know you won't be back for awhile if they see an empty trailer at a trailhead.

For those of us that CANNOT carry their off road toys in the TV after setting up camp site, here is the best thing, I have seen and found so far,to cover those bases. I just spent 4 days in Oregon and a good friend has this set up on his 5th wheel rig, worked liked a champ.

It is called and Idaho Tote, it attaches to the back of the RV with 2 brackets made for the frame of the RV, regardless of model, then the same 2 brackets (another set) are attached to the TV, via the rear TT hitch.

The Toy can be hauled behind the RV to camp site, then off loaded and the Idaho Tote removed and attached to the TV, load the toy and go anywhere you want to use the toy.

See info here: http://www.idahotote.com/

This Idaho Tote will be going on the back of the TH to solve this problem of transportation of the toy to the use area.

Unfortunately having one of these behind a trailer/5er is not legal in all states, especially on the east coast. With that said, I am seriously considering taking my chances on one.

Sensitive much?

He meant which campground(s) specifically. Different campgrounds have different circumstances.
