I have only seen one comparison test and PD-IOTA were about equal after two hours.

At least with IOTA you get full rating.... no so much with PD.
True. Has anyone even ran a PD with proper wiring to find out for sure? Most PD installs seem to be with very inadequate wiring.

Fisherguy posted his test of a PD9280 on 7 ft of #4, which should be "adequate wiring" --go down to the second graph

Thanks BFL! That looks like full rated current to me although it tapers pretty fast.

Fisherguy should have seen about 20 minutes of constant 80amps before it tapered. Instead he got 79a for an instant and tapering. It sort did the equivalent of 75a constant approx.

Which is why to buy a higher amp PD than the amps you are looking to get to get them, but it still does a reasonable job of recharging at the amps it does do.

Eliminates the PD as far as I'm concerned. You have to spend more money to get equivalent amps. Maybe saving on wire might make up the difference?

The PD also has that issue with MSW generators. (along with some inverter/chargers apparently)

What wave form does your planned MH's gen have? ISTR the WFCO works with MSW gens? Wayne posts about that somewhere here. So if PowerMax's next generation converter still doesn't suit you, two of those 68100s will get you your 200a off that monster gen.

Not sure what the waveform is like on that gen. The specs only list some marketing BS about an improved waveform. Can't find anything else on it. 68100's have a boost button too. Might be worth a looksie.

My modified PowerMax now stays at 14.6 once it gets to that at the end of the bulk stage so the absorption stage goes pretty much the same as a big Vector would.

I can't recommend monkeying with one though unless you are prepared to do some circuit board repairs until you get it right ( It is entertaining to watch the in-rush current thermister burst into flames and smoke like Baghdad during Shock and Awe while you twiddle the voltage pot, but then you have to sort that out and get it all going again)

I imagine the WFCO would do absorption properly too. Mr Wiz refuses to confirm for some reason, but perhaps he just can't say because he shuts it off before it gets that far and does the rest on solar.

No rush anyway. Perhaps by the time you need it , somebody will have a new product that will be just right out of the box.

Definitely no rush, I don't even have the MH yet but I do like to have most planning done before I do it.
