It should have scored higher for the novelty value alone, seldom do you see a dusty swamp!

I lived in this area during my entire childhood and I know exactly where this is at. Drove by it a million times. I am actually heading to LaGrand and no, I would not stay there......not if it were free. It is at the base of a snake riddled hill and the wind SCREAMS there all the time. I mean it literally has blown trains off the track - honest truth. I have never seen it blow so hard. Yes, it is on a dirt road that is not oiled and the dust would be deplorable. Hot Lake has been defunct for a million years. Someone bought it a number of years ago and has been trying to restore it, but that has been tried a ton of times. Don't think they will ever get it up and running. My dad was born there when it was a hospital a very long time ago.

It may have large sites, and I can't vouch for the quality, or lack thereof, the staff. I just know the location and would, personally, have no desire to stay there.

I get such a kick out of RV Park Reviews....not only are the ratings all over the place by a select few but what makes me laugh even more is when the poster CANT get the Park name right or post their opinion in the wrong place. I was checking out "Fishing Bridge" in Yellowstone today and even if you do the least amount of info gathering before going, you know that its close quarters, it has mosquito's, the sewer connections are somewhat high, there's no campfires or tables YET people rate the Park a "1" because of the exact same things mentioned. Somehow, this selct few believe every CG should be an elaborate Resort!

Someone reviewed a campground in Virginia that we go to as a "one" star because they saw a snake when they were leaving. Really, they saw a snake in the mountains...who would of thought.

We also throw out the highest and lowest and go from there.

When I read reviews on any thing and I see a really good or really bad review I'll read that reviewers other reviews to see if they are the type who is never happy and always give bad reviews (I'll the disregard the review) or they actually had a problem with what they were reviewing (I'll check for the same issue in others reviews) or they are a plant for the product (never reviewed anything else--disregard review). This process takes a little while but it does weed out the winers and the fakers.

Remove the low score. Remove the high score and you will have a good idea of the CG.

In a perfect world, all campgrounds would start with a "five." Ratings above or below that would be the exceptions. However, we do not live in a perfect world.
Having written and reviewed hundred of performance reports in my Air Force career, I have seen the "halo affect" many times. That is when one of, say, ten areas is outstanding and deserves that rating, writers tend to rate all other areas the same. There is also a reverse halo affect. One bad area brings all areas down.
As has been stated, campground ratings are subjective. When we traveled with grandkids, we looked for things appealing to them. Now that we travel alone, we look for different things, and rate campgrounds accordingly.

We have stayed at this park, NO way in Hades does this park deserve any rating above a 6! Anybody that rates it a 10 is smoking something!
