Best I can tell you is when taking possession of a new or used RV from a dealer is to do the PDI BEFORE YOU SIGN ANY PAPERS AND TAKE POSSESSION...if you find anything wrong then the problems can be fixed prior to you signing the final papers and you taking possession...
Dealer won't let a PDI until you have signed and taken possession of the RV? WALK AWAY...

Easier said than done when they hold your deposit.
A lot of shrewd businessmen out there that are more than willing to tell you to walk - but what would they really do if they spent 3 months shopping, 1 month preparing and order, and 3 months waiting for the build and delivery. There it is - in all it's shine and glory with your name on it, and you're going to tell your wife you're WALKING? Probably not.
I don't think there is any Dealer out there that's not going to let you look at it, but I think they are interested in closing before you start going through it with a fine tooth comb. In defense of the Dealer, you ordered it and they delivered and now its a deal as long as it showed up in reasonable condition. I would take a willingness to walk so easily as a sign you are getting cold feet on the deal overall, and that puts you right into contract space and they do have some recourse for you walking.

We threatened to walk (yes both of us) on our present fifth wheel until they gave in...and yes we wrote that into the purchase agreement (PDI BEFORE possession)
...and as for the PDI see what you stated above - what defines reasonable condition? and how do you know it showed up in reasonable condition before you sign any papers?
You would be amazed how fast they fix any problems you find during the PDI since they still own the RV (as opposed to you signing the final papers and then hoping they fix any repairs in a reasonable amount of time)...
That's how I work but you do what you think is best for you and your family...

Oh I will - don't think I need your permission for that!
But I am curious why it came to push and shove with the Dealer if you already had it written into the purchase contract? Seems if they allowed that to be written into the contract they would have gladly let you do your PDI. Doesn't mean they have to fix anything, but they would have let you do the PDI.
I guess I would look at reasonable condition as it showed up without gross physical damage and the options were installed as promised. PDI on the other hand gets down to loose staples, microwaves that don't work, etc. in my opion and there is certainly no reason to hold a sale hostage for work they are going to cover under warranty anyway.
If the microwave didn't work, would you have walked because they couldn't get a new one that very day? Would you have made them fix it "before" you closed the sale even if it was 10 days later? What is the point of going through the agony of checking bolt torque and hot water tank function if they are already obligated to fix it and it's much easier to bring in a list after you've actually camped in it a few days. Beyond physical damage that you could be blamed for once it got off the lot - who cares? Go camping.
PDI is done to have ALL defects found BEFORE final check is passed over to the dealer. The reason is that the dealer does not have the pressure to really fix things once the money is in their pocket instead of yours, believe me, it is very important to go over every thing you can before you take ownership.
You ask if the microwave is not working when you do the PDI would anyone not take possession and my answer is YES I would NOT take possession until all defects are fixed that were found on PDI. YOU BET!! I am sure there will be more found once you go camping etc but at least you get the big ones that were noticable fixed. The dealer does not always fix things to your liking or fix it at all if they hold the money but if you do, you can bet they will get it fixed and fixed well if their money depends on it.

PS - if the pump is running - water is going somewhere downstream of the pump - start checking for leaks. Is it possible it was just filling the hot water tank? That takes a while sometimes.
The pump on my brother's old rig doesn't shut off and it's not because of leaks. The pressure sensor doesn't work anymore.

Hope that all works out for you next time you a new rig, and good for you for standing up to them and going home without a camper because your microwave didn't work. I like to pick my own stresses. Call me when the microwave comes in and I'll bring it down. In the meantime I'll be at the lake.

It 'sounds' like they're going to take care of me. The real issues are the leaking anode rod, and the door skin they said they replaced (I'm doubtful of that after looking at it). After camping in it twice, the anode rod doesn't seem to be leaking anymore though. I used rectorseal on the threads instead of teflon tape (because it wouldn't seal). I just hope I can get the rod out at the end of the season
