It has been 4 years since our last trip. I remember having problems trying to use the grill (windy). What can I do to prepare better? Bugs bad? Oh, staying at the KOA.

Just stayed there a few weeks ago. Right on the dunes... They are still rebuilding, but staff is great. Also there is a great diner across the street, great food....
Didn't really have to much problems with grill or bugs

Wilmington KOA once or twice a year...normally a quick weekend trip during fall.

Daddy Joe's Tabor City - probably our favorite place. Maybe 3-4 times per year. Super nice folks. Kid friendly and close to Calabash & Bass Pro Shop. lol

Ocean Lakes - Thanksgiving

That is regular places we visit. OBX first trip in 4 years. We make one long trip during the summer. Last year Va Beach (will not go back too much jet noise) and this year James Island in Charleston.

Next summer thinking about Gettysburg.

I have never been to Holiday at Emerald Isle. I teach high school and all our kids go down there so I try to steer away (I see them enough lol). Plus EI is VERY expensive from what I am told.

I like the mountains but my wife grew up there so it is no big deal to her. That is about it.

You have any suggestions?

HTP EI was $80 a night this past weekend. For our drive from Apex, it's really worth it since the OBX CG's are so much further and just as expensive. We too like Tabor City. I wish the NC coastline allowed for more cg's. We'll probably be trying out Myrtle Beach Travel Park next.
