whisperide is exactly right. The higher hp engine will always deliver more torque to the rear axle through gear reduction/torque multiplication at equal road speed every time. So if you want to put blinders on and only see torque, find and dandy, the higher hp engine puts more to the ground.

I wonder if the original poster is ever going to come back on here and tell us if he has an overdrive tranny or not.
I agree that if he has a new GM truck, it would probably do a better job of towing the trailer so may as well use that, unless the truck doesn't have the payload capacity to haul the hitch weight.

LOL
This original poster is pulling our leg.
His signature in his profile lists that he has a 2004 Dodge 2500 with HO diesel and hauls a 10' Northern Lite truck camper with it.
He turned off his signature for this post topic, if you go to his profile, its right there.
We all just wasted our time arguing about a fallacy....

He also made THIS post about 2 weeks ago, asking about pulling a fifth wheel with a new GM 4x4 shortbed truck he has. 2 pages of discussion and he never came back to reply to that topic either.
This guy is obviously trolling us....

I had no idea my little dilema could generate this much information. My transmission is the 727 3 speed.
I do have a deep trans oil pan with gauge and have been thinking about the enlarged intake tube from the turbo. With the exception of the trans pan..the truck is original with 310K miles (no rust).
I installed a new set of injectors (stock). Sounds like the truck will probably pull more than I realize...but we are going to stay around the 25' range for a 5r.
Thank you for all the valuable input.

I do have a new GMC Duramax WT 6.5' box also...we decided its too tall to deal with all the modifications for level pull. The old Dodge is more fun to drive, gets about the same MPG or better and doesnt need DEF. Payments are alot less on the Dodge also!
thanks again.

So what happened to the 2004 Dodge 2500 truck with high output 305/555 or 325/600 (I forget which numbers were for 2004) Cummins 5.9 diesel????
Why are we discussing pulling a fifth wheel with a 22 year old truck with a 160 hp diesel with a 3 speed when there is this other awesome gem in your signature that would do 10x better towing the same trailer???
If I had a new Duramax diesel truck and an old 160 hp truck, as well as an '04 diesel Dodge to tow the trailer with, I'd forget the '91 and choose between the '04 Cummins and the new Duramax....

The Dodge trucks made 01-01-'04 and after are 325/600 50 state legal emission. I have one made 01/'04 and wouldn't trade it for my current purposes. I have pulled B-52's with a 5.9 180 hp cummins and drive an International straight truck with a 5.9 IC 180hp engine. That truck redlined at2800rpm at 65mgh.

Far cheaper and easier to correctly lower the too-tall DuraMax than to fix everything that's wrong with the early Cummins Dodge.
