It's like traveling, many travel but they don't always stay in 5 star hotels. Look around for less expensive sites, try boondocking a few nights.
Yes, it's nice to stay at your favorite CG's. But it's also nice to save money and have the same amount of fun and pleasure.
But, this is just my opinion

Hi,
You may wish to research these sites--they can save one a bundle on camping fees.

Band of Boondockers
Bob's Cheap or Free Campsites
Boondocking Sites
not necessarily boondocking

during a 3-month trip earlier in the year (75-nights) we averaged $26.76 per night for site rental. all of the parks were privately owned and most had 5-hookups (water/electric/sewer/cable tv/wi-fi). at least one charged nearly $45 per night (6 nights there).
the 'secret' is to stay for at least a week, sometimes a month. a park's weekly or monthly rate is going to be superior to whatever daily discount is provided. in one park in AZ we paid for a week but eneded up staying only 5-nights becuase it was cheaper to do that instead of paying for 5-individual days. ya gotta do the math.

Simple, they charge $54 because they can get it, all be it possibly only during high demand season frequented by folks still in the employment world. The greatest offset as already mentioned is staying at least a week at the CG.

Learn to camp in less expensive places with less amenities,. You will find that the prices are a lot less and most of the time you and the family will still enjoy themselves just as much.

yes as we travel we come across some reasonable, some cheap, and some pretty expensive. But in the end you want to keep the cost-per-day average to a happy minimum!

Buc,
Everything is relative. You have a 2011 Ford that cost $40,000+, a 2005 RV that probably was at least $30,000 and fuel, insurance, maintenance, food, and now the consideration is that a few dollars more or less will make or break camping for some. The cost of a few nights in a campsite is a very small part of RV camping unless the folks are full time RVers and they learn to purchase campsites at the monthly rate that is much less than a daily cost or look to other options that mitigate the rates.

Yes the fee was at the resort type of campground but I think that the high fee will turn the campers away. That why the campground was 30-60% full.
