water separator is a must on the tank. Don't want to contaminate your truck fuel system. Even though it should be filtered when pumped into tank, it is added insurance.

I've had an aux tank on my last three trucks with no additional filter or water separator. No problems. Putting fuel in it is no different than putting fuel in the factory tank so I don't really see the need for it. Certainly wouldn't hurt though if you so desire.

I have a 60 gal RDS tank in my last two trucks with no extra filters. I put the same fuel in it as I would put in the regular tank. I do run most of my fuel through the aux. tank trying to always keep it clean.

I had a local tank shop make me a 72 gallon tank then I put a kit from Northern Tool on it to tie it into my filler house for the main truck tank and a shut off valve on the aux tank. I have had it since the first of the year with no problems "knock on wood". I do not have any filters on the aux tank I was told that the filter on the truck was all I needed. I can travel about 750 miles with a fill up of both tanks towing my 5ver. Out of the 72 gallon tank I have prolly 60 useable gallons and I have a 34 gallon main tank.

We have a 55 gal KSH inbed fuel tank and no extra water filtration but I wondered when we had it installed in March of 05 if being out in the sun and cold if water would be a problem. We winter in Az so it is cool and then the sun changes the temp very quickly for condensation if the tank is not full but never had water yet. I have drained and checked for water 3 times but nothing but clear diesel . Extra fuel sure makes for a pleasant trip.

I have a RDS gravity feed 50 gallon tool box combo tank. It has worked great for 3 years. No extra filter. Haven't had any problem with it. I too fill up the both the aux tank and the truck tank at each fill up. I like keeping the fuel in the tanks freash.
