..is driving me nuts with a new 'feature.'

If I don't specifically LOGOUT of a banking session, the next time I come back I will get a pester screen saying "Your online session has been terminated and you will have to log in again." This only appears after I've unknowingly tried to log in again. Banks usually close your session automatically after 10 minutes or so, so why the pester?

Emails to tech support always result in the same answer: "It's not our fault. Clear your cache." Yeah right.

Anyway.. any USBankers out there?

Its a security thing, you should be thankful that THEY automatically time out your session.

Otherwise anyone using your PC could access your account.

On your end, just need to locate the cookie they use and delete it.

Depends on your browser and version of that browser as to where the cookies are stored.

But in all cases each browser has a setting to delete all cookies which often is in TOOLS and options (each browser calls it something different).

Why not just log out? You should anyway and it saves the hassle.

Yes, it's something they can fix but don't bother to. My BOA online account does not do that even if it logs me out after the inactivity time limit is up.

So you can 1) change banks (a nuisance) 2) log out 3) put up with it 4) clear all your cookies every time you log out. That is a pain because then you lose any site info you want to keep.

I really don't think it's intended.

Do you mean 'does that' or 'does not'?

BofA logs you out but does not pester you about it. MAIL.COM pestered for a while but seems to have gotten over it.

Nope, depending on the software the bank (or website) uses that may not be possible at all without rewriting the entire website.

Banks (and most websites) use whats called "cookies" which are dropped to your PC. These cookies are used to tell the website where you were in there site before and it will load the web pages much faster. The cookies are also used to autologin you to the website (like this forum) so you don't need to type in the password to post.

With banking info (or any other private info), you really don't want to have auto login to those sites.

In 2oldmans case the cookies are telling the bank that the PC is already logged on but the back is responding that the session has timed out. THIS IS A GOOD THING!

2oldmans bank will change the status of the cookies on his PC IF he properly logs out and would not nag him at the next seesion. The key here is to LOGOUT properly and he will never be nagged again. This just takes a few practice rounds and it becomes a habit.

"My BOA online account does not do that even if it logs me out after the inactivity time limit is up."

Your BOA is not using cookies to see if you are logged in so you won't see any message if you failed to log out. While this works it is a BAD thing to do, you should always use the LOGOUT everytime to avoid opening up a security hole.

This bank (or any bank) has never required me to 'properly' log out.

What's even more annoying is that nag screen telling me it automatically ends my session after X minutes. If it's ending my session (logging me out) then why is it forcing me to log out? This is using Chrome.

But wait.. there's more! This next problem is using IE9. It won't remember me. I get the above screen EVEN if I log out properly.

The second problem is what leads me to believe their website is not working properly, but of course no one knows anything.
