Howdy!
We had a Coleman 13500 AC in the bedroom of the 5er we had to replace. The RV repair had a new Dometic 13500 AC in stock so they installed it. This new Dometic AC just like the Coleman is a dump AC with controls in the unit not vented which is not a problem. The problem is the new Dometic placed on the coolest temperature setting and high fan will only cool to 71 degrees and then the compressor kicks off. The temperature rises to about 74 degrees and then the compressor kicks on and starts cooling. In this Texas heat its comfortable coming on and off all night long between 71 to 74 degrees. The RV repair who installed the AC contacted them and Dometic states that the new units do have a cutoff that they will only cool to 70 degrees. I plan on contacting the RV repair on Monday to have them replace the Domectic with a New Coleman unit which they said they would do.
So anyone ever hear of this situation that new AC's only cool to 70 degrees. Hope that a new Coleman does not do the same thing.

I could not stay in the camper at 74 much less 71 degrees. That is time to turn on the heat.

What kind of thermostat are you using? Is this a ducted unit?
The standard air distribution boxes with mechanical thermostats do have a fairly high low temp- but I think they all are around 70.

I just purchased a new dometic and the manual says the max cooling setting is a low of 65 deg and highest temp is 90 Deg. I hope the thing cools below 70!

Good grief! Below 70 degrees is furnace time. I do not know the characteristics of this new R410 referigerant they are required to use. Perhaps it causes the unit to freeze in temperatures below 70 degrees. If that is the case, all A/C manufacturers have to use it and may have the same problem. Best check before switching.

I really hope that's not true for all the new AC units because I find that completely ridiculous and unacceptable. 70 degrees is way too warm. There is no way in heck this acceptable.

My mechanic recently had a problem with warranty service at Dometic. They made some ridiculous statement about the heat pump operation that made no sense. When asked to provide documentation they could not do it.

I spoke with the RV repair this morning. Once again they state after talking to Dometic that 70 is the low point due to the new R410 referigerant. They contacted Coleman and Coleman stated their low point was 60 degrees. They ordered us a new Coleman 13500 unit and will replace the Dometic when it arrives. Just so everyone knows the RV repair is "Joel West RV" located in Livingston, Texas near the Escapees. Rick there has gone above and beyond with great customer service for us seeing Dometic issues.

I have a Dometic digital thermostat, and the lowest it goes is 60 degrees. I wonder if resetting the t-stat might help with this.
Here is a PDF of the thermostat's manual.
