At the moment we're at a small Oregon state park, Valley of the Rogue, where the Fourth of July crowd has been streaming in. It's amazing there haven't been any accidents given how fast people have streaking through the place.
One guy in particular barreled in with his Montana and proceeded to come close to dropping 5th on its nose. He managed to undo the hitch release before the rig was chocked and it slid backwards so it was pinned against the tailgate. He did mange to recover, but it was a close call.

As almost year round campers looking back I can honestly say my best camping has been prior to and after labor day due to the diminishing crowds. When the weather turns to fall a different kind of camper can be found.

Same!! Learned that decades ago.
Sitting in the backyard looking up at the Sierra's, about 30 minutes from Tahoe, having a margarita, getting ready to BBQ and the Flag flying in the front yard. Life is good at home but looking forward to the Holiday being over so we can get back on the road.

For years, as dual worker bees we had little choice but to go on weekends. One of the many great joys of being retired is the ability to avoid weekends and to avoid holiday weekends like the plague. This reduces the chucklehead factor greatly. For our usual trips this summer we leave on Sunday or Monday morning and we head home on Friday. We do encounter a lot of traffic going the other way but then that is where I like to see it.

doci, when you full time, you're going to eventually see it all. Just remember that during the camping season, you'll have 2 days a week, along with a holiday or two, with the weekenders. The rest of the time, hardly anyone is around. At least that's what I've experienced at State and COE parks in the S.E. over the past several years. I do avoid the coast during this time period, preferring lakes instead.
For those sitting at home in the backyard, sipping margaritas, flying the flag and starting to B-B-Q... Happy 4th of July. God Bless you. Keep up the good work and thanks for staying out of my way.

If you're ever in the S.E., give me a shout. I'll point you in the right direction as best I can. Be sure to get that Federal "geezer pass" at 62. It's a winner down here.

Even though people can generally be beasts on holiday weekends, I still prefer camping when the CG is full to when it is empty. I rather enjoy seeing everyone's rigs and the liveliness that goes along with it. I can get peace and quiet at home. LOL
Someday that might change, for now I know it's a trade off that to enjoy the liveliness I will sometimes encounter jerks. Most people, however, have proven to not be in that category at least.
