What was good enough for my trucks tranny for the first 50,000 miles...now isn't?

And, now, I told to NOT put in what te owners manual says to...

$15/gallon plus $13 for a filter to replace dexron-what's in it, from the factory...

Or $42 a gallon to go to transynd,,,but gotta do it twice mind you...so $82 a gallon essentially

Anyone else looking at this issue as am I?

I'm not cheap but...

Perhaps if I had any thoughts of keeping my Dmax beyond 300000 miles????

Allison recommends transynd, GM does not. Your call from there. 2 pan dump and fills equals 3 gallons and you are good for a longer change interval (150,000mi severe duty cycle). Helps with summer temps towing grades and winter flow.

Check to see if there is an Allison dealer close to you. I get mine for $32. a gallon and filters for $8.10. It's worth every penny of it. Noticed smoother shifts within miles.

I order mine on line by the case and it lasts awhile. Stay with the Transynd if you like your Allison. I've known a few people that went cheap and burnt up their trannys towing down the road...

If your truck is still under warranty I would follow the GM owners manual. If not, it's up to you. Google the specs on the 2 if you are concerned. And it's Dexron 6, not just Dexron. There is still some old stuff out there, make sure you are getting 6.

You can run Dex VI or any other approved TES 389 fluid; you just have a shorter change interval.

People have a slobbering love affair with Transynd and act as if any other approved fluid will destroy an allison.

thanks for the comments
im ok with a shorter change interval
my coach has transynd which ill keep of course
but for my pickup ill stick with the tes 389 i figure

just kind of interesting that allison no longer recommends tes 389, pretty much at all...wonder if that has much to do with politics?

that said, im sure transynd is "better" but im not convinced its necessary as allison implies by their lack of endorsement of anything but transynd now

Allison doesn't recommend 389's because of their warranty. GM superceeds Allison warranty coverage so if you gernade your tranny at 99k miles running dex VI you're covered. Do that in a non-gm and allison won't back you up. All CYA on Allison's part.

They also recommend a 150k change interval for 295 fluids. I'd love to see one documented case that someone ran that long with transynd so IMO it's a waste of money.

GM does not endorse TES 295 or TES 389 Fluids. These are Allisons specifications. TES-389 is to replace the DEXRON III era fluids many models of Allison will take in normal non severe service or extended maintenance interval applications.

GM wants DEXRON VI -they own the license and specification.

GM will respect TES 389 and TES 295 fluids for maintenance in regards to warranty but not the exteded TES 295 drain intervals without oil analysis at service points that show fluid is performing properly.
