Hi All,

I am about to purchase a 2008 Four Winds 5000, however when I ran the VIN number it comes up a 2007 Chevy Express.
The RV looks clean and seems sound however I wouldn't like to find out that when I go to tax it , its illegal, or unsafe. Any help or information about this sort of thing would be much appreciated ASAP!

Thanks!

yes this is the norm the chassis is usually at least one year older than the year of the motor home.

They do fleet buys on the trucks then build so truck may be older than the coach. That is normal and common..

I have a 2008 four winds 5000 21rb and it is on a 2007 Chevy chassis......very common.
Just make sure you check the front bunk for leaks, I have battled small leaks in mine since I bought it new.
Just uncovered it and made her ready for this year.....
Good luck

Which makes me wonder about house batteries, my T-105's were installed in our 2004 model Tioga that was assembled in 2003. Batteries may have been manufactured in 2002 or earlier.

More likely the chassis battery. The house batteries would have been put in inventory some time nearer the construction of the house portion.

The RV model year leads the chassis manufacturers model year by six to ten months, and most of the production is in the early part of the model year.

E.G. a 2008 FourWinds might have been manufactured as early as March 2007 (sometimes even a few in January, to make the early trade shows). The 2008 Chevy or Ford chassis won't be available until the September - November changeover, so the match of model years will be only the production during the last few months of the RV model year. That's just the way the RV industry does it.

It is still quite possible that your 2007 chassis, and components, were only a few weeks old when the motorhome was built, it is just that the motorhome model year is way off the calendar year. My 2004 was built in May 2003 on a chassis built in April 2003.
