Hello I am a newbie here and am female so I don't know a lot of the automotive terms. I do know we put our Bronco in the shop and they installed trailer breaks and a hitch. We also have the anti sway bars and something else that's supposed to help with it shifting from side to side. We were told a transmission cooler was not needed. We took our first trip with it last week. As we pulled into our campsite the transmission seal melted and all the transmission fluid came out. Of course it wouldnt get in gear. We finally got it by pushing. We got the Bronco fixed new seal and transmission fluid and my husband drove it home and brought his parents excursion so we could haul it home. We weren't even 3 miles away from the campground and it started smoking. We would pull off every 10-15 min and let it cool. We got home in 1 piece. My question is what else do we need to have on our Bronco to tow the trailer without these problems. We can't afford a new vehicle right now so if we can't haul it why have it?  Please help as we want to keep it and figure everything out.

Is this a Bronco II? If so then your going to need another tow vehicle. That TV is just not up to towing anything and your just going to keep destroying things.
Sorry for the bad news but it's no fun being broke down and paying big repair bills.
Good luck.

What Bronco do you have....model/year/engine/tanny/rear end gear ratio?

What trailer...model/year/WEIGHT?

Sounds like your trailer is too big/heavy if Bronco tranny seal got hot enough to melt AND your parents Excursion ran hot also?????

Tranny cooler....BIG One.

The truck is 2004 5.0L should have the 205 hp V8. The trailer is 31' long and an Appex is @ 4500 lbs dry, around 7000 GVWR! The truck should have the trailer tow package already installed.

But that's a BIG heavy long trailer! Yikes!

No it's not a Bronco 2. It's a 1994 Fullsize Bronco. I got screwed up on the years.

i'm sorry but i have a hard time believing a 31' TT having a "dry" weight of only 4500lbs.
my 23' HTT weighed almost that much from the factory and it's an ultralite trailer.
not sure where the OP is getting these weight and towing numbers because none of them make sense.
Google shows the Gulfstream Cavalier TT might be a FEMA trailer.

i have a feeling the OP has wayyyy too much trailer for an old 5.0 Bronco. no wonder it's blowing up and there's nothing that's going to help a hugely overloaded tow vehicle.

Geeze, I didn't want to weigh in on this... But, I think this part of the OP should be noted.

The Excursion was smoking???

It seems obvious this 31 foot trailer is too much for a Bronco, especially one with a 302. But if it's also too much for an Excursion, something is really wrong here.

Things don't seem to make much sense.
