I recently purchased a 2012 GMC 3/4 ton 4x4 with standard (6' 6") box and am considering the Reese Sidewinder. I not only want the extra turn capability but want to be able to alternate with my gooseneck cargo hauler. Already have a 20K Reese 5th wheel hitch. Have seen a few comments about folks using the Sidewinder but am curious about the experience of anyone using one of them. My 5'er is a 33' Excel at 11k dry.

Related question: The new GMC box is 4" higher than my 2002 Silverado box was. Any recommendations on "raising" my 5'er so it will tow level?

Thanks for any comments.

We have owned a Reese Sidewinder for abut 1yr. now. First time 5er. So we learned by experience. (40 +yr trav. trl. owners). Love the set up... we pul a 31 ft Durango 1500 with a Dodge Mega Cab 1500 short box. One quick tip. You will rationalize that the 5th wheel is fixed so you do not need to lubricate the plate or hitch pin.. WRONG... once you lubricate, hitching and disconnect becomes a breeze. Got to love it. ... :-)

I've been using a Sidewinder for almost a year. It works great. There is an issues with my hitch (RBW Lil' Rocker). You must be able to hitch straight and the truck must be at the same angle as the trailer. Everything else about it is great.

I have the Sidewinder (Revolution) I like it. I also pull a gooseneck trailer, with my Signature Series gooseneck. Very good towing platform for a short bed truck.

Hmmmm.......new truck to short yet too tall, and a little light in the knickers for an 11K dry trailer...wonder if they sold your trade yet

I have been towing with the sidewinder in my signature for about 5 years and it has been great. I am using the Reese 16k hitch.
