Take it loaded to the dealer and make it a Ford warranty problem!

The Ford dealer will ask that he unload the camper so they can work on it, at which point the problem will go away. With no problem to fix, the dealer will not fix the problem, and he is back to square one.

Sadly you are correct. Warranty covers failure and breakage rarely does it include preventive services.

I took a car into the dealer and told them the right rear wheel bearing was failing. The guy writing up service, agreed, the mech agreed and the Senior mech agreed. But they would not fix it till it failed.

The result: It failed a few weeks later and the parts list they installed was 2 pages long. Had they said yes, the bearing would have been replaced and that would have been mostly all. Instead they replaced it along with just about everything else on that side of the pinion gear to incluce the axle shaft. Must have cost them a $$$$

Cost the auto manufacturer a bundle, for the dealer, the more they can send warranty claims in, the more money they can get.

Being that I was a service manager at a Ford Dealer, if they tell you that they will not work on your vehicle, loaded ... when the problem is occurring, get a hold of the owner and tell him that you are going to file a complaint to Ford World Headquarters Service Section.

As long as the truck is being used, as it was intended, there should be no problem with them working on it loaded.

Here is another instance where the customer needs to contact Ford Motor Company, only this time it should be the Warranty Division.

A defective bearing, is a defective bearing AND it could possibly be a safety hazard. The warranty department at FoMoCo would not be happy with a dealer putting them into a liability suit, much less costing them extra money for parts and labor. AND if the owner of the dealer is worth a hoot, then he would not be happy with his service department putting him at risk of a liability suit.

Had that been me, taking my truck into the service department and them telling me that it was not bad enough to change, I would have told them that if I had an accident, I would be seeing all of them in court. Sometimes you have to get right up in their face. But if I were you, I would write to FoMoCo and explain how your service department put you into an unsafe situation. You might also ask to talk to the district or regional representative, but Ford Hq is really the place that 5hit hits the fan.

My GM dealer hates to see me come through the door, but they know that I know the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act of 1975, which all dealers and distributors of vehicles have to abide by. They used to put a copy of it in the glove box along with the owner's manual. My dealer has learned that they can't urinate on this paratrooper's leg and tell me that it is raining.

Sorry that you have to go through that bad experience.

The dealer service departments at most truck dealers work on loaded service trucks all the time. Most of these service trucks have work bodies and equipment mounted on them permanently and cannot be unloaded. They service them just the same, no problem with them being loaded.

Same here; I never take the camper off to see my dealer except if it going to be something where it would be a lot more conveniant for them. They did used to sell the MDT's so they have some large service bays and strong lifts but you shouldn't have to take it off unless they don't have big enough lifts. I would consider looking up a dealer that works on MDT/HDT's.

The only time I could see having the TC on as a problem is if they needed to remove the cab. Otherwise every car/ truck dealer that I have seen has a bay for bigger vehicles.

Seems like that would be another one where filling the bed with the exact max weight available (be it stones or gravel etc.) would be the ticket in dealing with the dealer trying to get around the issue. Or hooking it up toi a trailer within the specs perhaps.

On a brand new truck, it's not worn out u-joints, carrier bearing, or slip yoke. It's also not likely an out of balance driveline, though checking the balance wouldn't be a bad idea.

The problem is axle wrap, caused by soft rear springs.

Change the rear springs packs to heavier duty packs, ones which have a thicker main top leaf, as well as longer, thicker, or more supporting leafs beneath the main leaf. Do that and the axle wrap problem, and resulting driveline shudder, will go away.

UPDATE!

Did I tell you what would take place in a earlier post...YES!

Dropped off truck, 0815. They call back at 1015.

"the shudder you are having is NORMAL"

Well if its NORMAL then explain to me WHY in spite of nearly 20,000 miles and hauling loads across the SW it has NEVER occurred and in fact just started abut 1/2 way on the trip to Ft Worth. I also told you it ONLY happened UNDER load! So for the nearly 2 years I have owned the truck and it just started that is NORMAL? Sorry I do not believe you! Shuddering is not normal under load.

I would bet money if I load the camper and drive it down there, they would tell me shudder is NORMAL!!!! Of course when I take the camper off the they cannot detect the shudder therefore nothing is wrong!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Find a different dealer. FordTrucks.com is a good place to find a recommended dealer. Dealers are definitely not all alike, or at least, they don't all have competent people working for them.
