I hope this is written in the correct section. Last weekend my Wildcat 5th wheel was burglarized. The criminal made off with several thousand dollars worth of items including a loaded handgun. Also taken was a set of keys to my doors on the rig. It looks to me that all the locks will be easy to change other than the basement cargo doors as they are riveted on the door. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to do this . and are all the cam locks universal?

I have changed all the cam locks on my doors. The guts of the lock is what is changed so being riveted should not be a problem. Sorry to hear of the burglary. I hope the firearm is recovered.

I'm just curious, why would you leave a hangun in a storage bay? Looks like some lucky thief now has a stolen loaded handgun to play with and with a little luck he'll shoot himself by accident instead of some unweary rv'er!

You should be able to remove the lock cylinder. It should be attached from the back side.

I don't mean to flame you so please take this as humble advise.
1) don't ever leave a wepon, loaded or unloaded in a vehicle that is not totaly secured. If possable, install a good safe out of sight. Under the bed, ect.
2) change where you park your rv if you dont have it at home.
3) if you have it at home, put a security system in place with camera's.
Please remember that once they have found good equipment there, it is a good bet they will be back.
Sorry to hear of you loss, and hope it will not happen again.

Was it in storage or were you camping? If you were in storage then vietvet has a point, they know you will proabably replace the stuff so he may be back to grab the new equipment (TVs, etc.)

Nobody in our family could figure out why somebody would steal grandma's worn out tires and wheels on the Buick Wildcat while she was in church, but it all made sense when they did it again 2 Sundays later after she installed brand new wheels, radial tires, and wheel covers.

If it was broken into and items were stolen then it's obvious it was not secure. Sadly it is almost impossible to totally secure something and RV's are so flimsy that getting into one is not difficult. I keep mine at home in the country and messing with it would probably get a person shot. I say probably because I might not be home and have that opportunity.
