I am having a heck of a time with chucking. I have 2007 gmc 4dr dually and a 2005 couger 30' 5r. The gvrw on the trailer is 10200 pin weight 1740. 1740 is pretty lite for the duallys capability. The trailer sits level on the truck when connected. I put new tires on the rig last year(Load E)up from D, I wanted a better margin or error for safty. I run the pressure at 70psi tire can handle 80, I picked 70 based on the approx load I carry. So after doing alot of reading here and other blogs I am thinking I need to do several things
1. Increase pin weight 2. better shocks on tv 3. nose down 5r 1 to 2 inches. So this brings me to this question, if I slide the hitch one setting closer to the cab will I acheive the same effect as dropping the nose a bit. Or can I add a 40 gallon portable water tank in the bed of the truck ahead of the pin to increase the weight over the rear axcel of the truck. Thoughts??
Thanks

The 40 gallon tank will probably make the truck feel smoother but doubt if it will do anything for the chucking of trailer.
Need to increase the pin weight of trailer.
Also check the 'play' between king pin and hitch. Excessive play will cause chucking.

How did you determine the pin weight? I would recommend a trip to your local CAT scale and get some real world weights with your system in tow trim. You need axle weights of truck no trailer and each axle weight of truck and trailer in tow trim.
A major cause of chucking is low pin weight and nose high trailers.

Weigh each of your rv tires. Using the heaviest tire weight look at the tire inflation chart for your tires, add 5 psi to the recomended pressure. I have done this going from E to G tires with good results. Some will say to use max pressure, that is a bunch of ..........
Good luck

You are better off playing with the fresh water holding tank in the camper. This however depends where it is located, the closer to center rear is the best. The chucking is the after shock of the trailers reaction to road conditions. Yes a 1ton drw will ride like a truck as it is a working truck.
I had server chucking ended up installing a 5th Airbourne pin box. There are a few mfgs. of this style of pin box. They are all made to help reduce the chucking. Once I installed it did help but not 100%.

I agree. I have had the MorRyde pin box on my last 2 fivers. works great to prevent chucking. I would not adjust your trailer to ride nose down.

Gotta say we've never had a problem with chucking. We have a TrailerSaver BD3 hitch.

I had some chucking and the 5th was about 2" lower in the front. I raised the hitch 2" so the 5th is level and the chucking went away. I suspect the 5th needs to be level or it will chuck.
