We are leaving Friday night for Myrtle Beach. In previous years we have stayed at Willowtree which is North. This year we are staying at the new campground Cypress Campground which is on the intracostal waterway and south.
My microsoft streets and trips has us getting off I 95 at Dillion taking 501 to 544 to Dick Pond Road and then the capground.
What is 501 and 544 like? Do you still get hung up in Conway? I have not travelled this route in 10 years or so. The last time I remember sitting in heavy traffic in Conway.
Is there a better route such as 9 to 31 and then south?
Thanks!

If you don't mind my asking. You don't seem to like staying on the beach, and for us, It is the only reason we go. So i'm wondering what the draw to the area is, If a person dosen't like the beach? Not flaming, or critisizing, Just wondering.

I like the beach and when I stayed at Willowtree would go to the Cherry Grove Beaches. Never really minded the drive there. I had several places where I knew I could easily park. We always spend several days on the beach at Cherry Grove. We also have gone to the beaches up in NC Holden etc. When we are not at the beach I have a wife and daughter that love to shop. We will visit Broadway at the Beach, Barefoot Landing, the outlets etc. etc. and several Flea Markets. We have gone to several shows and we all love crab legs. The Giant Crab is our favorite! We have also taken day trips to Wilmington to see the Battleship North Carolina and down to Charleston to see the aircraft carrier.
What I don't like is the noise golf carts, and crowds that the beachfront campgrounds have. We have toured Ocean Lakes, Pirate Land, Lakewood, and Myrtle Beach Travel Park. Out of those I would probably consider staying at Myrtle Beach Travel Park. When we went through Ocean Lakes the golf carts were horrible. We had one come head on into my truck. I saw them coming up the wrong side of street stopped blew horn and they still hit my truck. No damage but I suspected alcohol played a factor. I also had a co worker who stayed in Myrtle Beach Condos which is next to one of the campgrounds. He told me they would go to the campgrounds swim, and use the other facilities and nobody ever stopped them. He said that many people used the campground pools etc.
We travel with four dogs. The noise and commotion of these campgrounds would drive them crazy. They are many kids and they are having a great time. A part of this is the yelling and shouting. I am not against this nor expect them to be quiet. They are kids on vacation at the beach and it is going to get loud. These campgrounds have very little room between sites. The dogs are going to hear all this activity and it is going to be close. They are going to do what dogs do when they hear this noise just outside the RV. I don't fault the camp grounds the more sites they have the more money they can make. It is a sound business move. If you have ever been to Willowtree the sites there have a lot more room compared to the beachfront ones. I can leave my dogs with the AC and fan running along with the radio and they are fine. I can also take them to the entrance road in the evening and let them run off leash because there is no one around. They are well behaved and are not tied up at home. They can run around my yard all they want. They need to run to burn off the energy. I don't think there is place in any of the beachfront campgrounds that I could let them run off leash.
The problem I also have is being able to schedule a spot that far ahead. It is tough to get a spot in July if you don't book well in advance. This year I didn't know we could go until this past Sunday for this coming Saturday. Willowtree seemed to always have a few spots open on shorter notice. We wanted to try something new so we are going to stay at Cypress Campground this year.
US 501 from Dillon to the Conway Bypass (SC 22) is 4-lane and a good road, just on it in March. Can't speak to 544 or south, we stayed in North Myrtle Beach.
