I have always found Michigan gas prices to be just a couple of pennies higher than in Florida. I assumed it was taxes.
But my sister tells me gas prices in Florida dropped below $3. I think the actual price was $2.94 at Racetrack.
Michigan prices are still 40 cents per gallon higher, like $3.34 at Sam's Club.
As usual, consumers get fleeced on holiday weeks.
Or am I missing something here?

There are places in Fla with prices still over $3. All depends on location, location, location.

I was comparing the Tampa area to the Detroit area, and two competitively priced outfits.
It just seems to me that Michigan gas stations have a long and rich history of jacking up prices around holidays, even if other states are lowering theirs.
To me 40 cents is a too big a spread.

It seems our little town does the same thing, jack up the prices just before a week-end or Holiday. I try to buy fuel on Tuesday or Wednesday, and avoid when I can, buying fuel over a Holiday...

The distance to refineries effects transportation costs along with state taxes. Complaining about gas price differences from state to state, region to region is a waste of time.

Why cause they can get away with charge more. You have a BP refinery in Toledo, OH and a large Marathon refinery south of Detroit but prices today are $3.49. There is also two large Marathon tank storage and transfer to truck stations one in Southwest of Monroe, MI and another southeast of Jackson, MI so prices have nothing to do with distance to refineries or transportation costs.

Got Diesel today in Cape Coral Fl, $3.28 and $2.91 for gas... Pilot is still charging $3.78 for diesel out off I-75.
In my life I've spent my money on women, booze, Harleys, guitars and traveling, the rest I just wasted...

Fuel prices vary everywhere - (gasp!) - within and between cities, counties, states.
Check it out next time you RV to Hawaii
Use - Gas (or diesel) buddy.

Depends on where you are in Fla.
We payed $ 3.14 gallon for Reg in Wildwood, Fl (I-75 / Fla. Turnpike) on Monday July 2 (I think it was Pilot).
Here in Fort Lauderdale, Best price is $ 3.21 Gallon for Regular (Murphy, Marathon, Sunoco). Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale is the off loading / storage facility for all of South Florida so it would seems that we should have some of the better prices (excluding local taxes).
What is nuts is last week while on vacation in the Smoky Mountains we payed $ 2.89 a gallon in Townsend, TN. that's cheep considering how far it has to be trucked.......Has to be Taxes jacking our Prices down here.
