Why is it our states don't have a reciprocal fishing permit for older folks, like +60 (or +62 or at oldest +65)? Not talking about state-shared waters, talking about every state reciprocally recognizing the residence permit of us older folks. Are they all really that money-grubbing? Or is it that no one's pursued it? Or at worst have those of us of a certain age pay the same $ as residents do.

Same question for retired military (and other, non-federal, uniformed services).

I think this would be a great project for Sam leadership. How do we get them to do it?

The DW & I love to fish. For us there are several states we'd definitely RV & fish in but for the fact we'd have to buy non-resident fishing permits and that puts RVing there out of the budget.

Maybe the same reasons there are no universal, state to state, drivers licenses or sales taxes or vehicle licenses, or property taxes or income taxes.

probably because of the paperwork. fishing/hunting licenses are issued by states which, in theory anyway, use the 100% of $ generated for conservation activities in that state. imagine the cost of a 'universal' fishing license if it was recognized in all 50-states or even X-number of states as the revenue generated from those licenses would have to be shared among the participating states. just imagine the cost of administering that program.

it ain't like a driver's license which, generally, *is* recognized across state lines. the motorist is not consuming state resources like you do when hunting or fishing. those same motorists are buying gas in those states which include local sales, state and federal motor fuel tax.

Why have an age limit? I bet at 30 years old and having a small child, I would use it even less than a retired person.

Why do 60+ people think they're entitled to special treatment?

If you can't afford a regular fishing license at that age you've made some poor choices in life.

Even If you got the resident rate for each state, say $25.00, the license would cost $1250.00 plus an administration fee. License fees are a big source of the funds individual states use to manage and support their fishery departments. Things like stocking and hatcheries, as well as enforcement officers are funded by those license fees. In most states, the fees are actually something you get your monies worth out of. Not just a fee that disappears into the general fund black hole of government only reappear as multibillion dollar study of when people put on their pants do they really put them on one leg at a time.

It's the same here in British Columbia, but they get double from us as they charge for a fresh water licence, and a salt water licence separately. It's one province. All the interior provinces have a fishing licence, but here we have to have two. When one lives on the coast like we do, we like to enjoy both infrequently.

No, no, no, it's because fish are smarter than we are. After all they are always in schools. They have have a lobby group in Washington that is second to none. They tilt the scales of justice without a second thought.

While you're working on a free fishing license for different states how about seeing if you can get everyone over 62 exempt from income and sales taxes?

well I agree with you, there could be a set fee for 65 and older , an out of state fishing lic is outragous. so a set fee for 65 and older is possible . say $20.bucks for a yr, lic fee in every state if your 65 or more.
