With computers and their automated data-bases, two or three Federal employees, part-time, in a Federal office that already has them doing other tasks ... could keep up with having permits automatically sent out by computer each year and the income from the permits automatically sent out to each state at the end of each year. It's not rocket science to implement and administer.

P.S. How about a lifetime fishing permit for the "elderly" for all 50 states - even less admin work for a few Federal office employees!

Instead of offering it to retired seniors offer it to people who are under 65 and are already paying for retirees' medicare, medicade, social security, underfunded pensions etc. Using net worth as a guideline as to how much someone should pay it should be noted that those over 65 have the highest net worth of any age group. In the interest of fairness, perhaps their licenses should cost more than anyone else's. The fact is, for every benefit or discount someone receives, someone else has to pay for it. Lunch isn't free.

Really? With computers, federal programs require very few employees to administer them? Then why does the federal government employ 1.8 million people, not counting the military? The IRS, which should be automated easily since it only handles data, employs approximately 100,000 alone. Don't think two part-time guys with a laptop will cut it.

So be a criminal and fish without a license. If you get caught, just tell 'em you're old and didn't realize you were fishing.

What?? You just fall off the boat, or something? We seniors paid into Medicare and Social Security all our lives, and still pay $100 a month for it, whether we use it or not ... ever look at your paycheck, or you too busy complaining - you get deducted for YOUR benefit so it's there when you get here!

I dont mind buying a states fishing license. What I have a problem with is the crazy cost because you are a non resident. If you have purchased a license in your state you should be able to pay a simple fee to fish in another state. You are there spending money anyway paying taxes ect why do they hold you up for a permit to fish for a couple days or less. some are very high I just do not understand it. Larry

The states can't even agree on something as simple as making U-turns. And you think they will agree to cooperate on fishing?

Most states sell a non-resident license good for a day or a few days. Just buy one, ya cheap skate.

You gotta love this type of attitude.

"Why do 60+ people think they're entitled to special treatment?

If you can't afford a regular fishing license at that age you've made some poor choices in life"

You won't be able to get 50 states to agree on anything. If it were federal waters, then you might have a better chance.
