Thanks for all the reassuring input. Having been on the road over a year we have driven through the Alleghanies to Ashville, Sierra Blanca in NM, the San Bernadino Mtns from Vegas to Palm Springs without too much nail biting, but we learned coming up the Pacific Coast Highway 1/101 from California to Vancouver that it is always wise to ask about roads in unfamiliar territory and are grateful for the generous response.
Spoke with a friend who grew up on Riverton, WY who said instead of Yellowstone, Cody, Bighorn route on 16 to Mount Rushmore we should go south to the Grand Tetons then on 26 through Riverton, Casper , Douglas then up again to Mount Rushmore...he said a far better route. Any thoughts?
We just skirted them on east side when we left Yellowstone on 89 on the way to swim in the Great Salt Lake and that was an awesome sight.
Just seeing them in front of the setting sun was a sight to remember.
Often for only another 100 or two hundred more miles one can make a loop to cover more ground.
Which is the better route from Yellowstone to Mt Rushmore....16 to 90 or south 26 via Riverton and Casper? Any RV Park recommendations..we don't dry camp.
