Have the cleanest TT kitchen floors after wiping the water up from the water bowl repeatedly since a certain 4-month-old keeps playing with her water bowl.
Sigh. The leonberger breeder did warn us....
Suggestions? This is a 40 lb puppy who will be 125 lbs. someday.
Thanks!
Forest River Sunseeker 3170 bunkhouse. We travel with two shih tzu, a leonberger and, oh, yeah, two teens and a 6-year-old.
We put it on foam shelving liner so it can't move. One in the kitchen and one in the yard! 2 1/2 gallons I believe.

We had a German Shepherd puppy like that. We tried everything.
Then I built a box with holes cut out to drop aluminum dog dishes in. You will want one anyway as they help prevent bloat, which can be an issue with, what I call, medium sized dogs (after all, what is a Saint Bernard and the like, now THAT'S a BIG dog). Initially the puppy put his paws on the box to reach food and water, but he grew up fast, they all do. He never had any trouble, and soon grew so he just stood straight to eat or drink.
BUT, my floor stayed dry, or at least as dry as possible with furchildren around.

I LOVE Leonbergers. Congratulations. I have the bottle dispenser thingy for our whippets and I picked up a silicon place mat for it that has a lip so any excess is caught. They aren't as sloppy in the eating/drinking department as a Leonbeger, though. I found it at Target.
We have one of these too, and it is great! We can leave it on the floor of the MH while we're driving, without any spills.
Of course, if you dog is trying to spill, and is picking the bowl up, that may be a problem, but this bowl would be a bit harder to pick up as a puppy, since the top lid is pretty wide, and it may not get it's mouth open enough to get a good grip
You could also go with the water bottle type, but get s bungee cord to fasten it to a wall, so that it can't be tipped over....or you'd be in an even worse mess!!

We have an English Mastiff. They love water as no other dog, labs, newfies, etc. When she's finished with one of her 8-10 drinks/day, it looks like water damage after a fire. We have tried everything. We have come to the conclusion that we will let her enjoy her water, clean up as much as possible, and plan on replacing the kitchen flooring in the future. As hard as it is to believe, I think she actually tries to be neater when she knows we are watching.

Playing how? Putting her paws in it, bumping it with her nose?
Try an elevated stand. Since she will grow much taller, some "experts" believe an elevated stand helps cut down on excessive air going into a dog's stomach when eating and drinking, especially if the animal eats/drinks very quickly. Lots of air in the stomach also supposedly contributes to bloat...another health concern for large breed dogs.

BTW: We try to encourage her to take most of her 'drinks' outside. But, if she sees water in any form i.e. puddle, lake, pool, birdbath, hot tub, fountain, sprinkler, hose, ice, etc., she will attempt to consume, bite, swim or roll in it. Simple pleasures!! Nothing like a wet 185lb dog in 100 degree heat!
