Thanks everyone for the feedback! I will certainly try the Geo Method, and otherwise just try to wing it!
Our fresh water tank monitor works OK. So when we don't have full hookups we use only the water pump and the fresh water gauge gives us a good idea of the usage.

Congrats on your Enterra! We were finally able to see a few of them at the local dealer where we bought our Viewfinder. I'm chiming in and joining the consensus that the sensors don't work accurately.

We have the clear elbow that Old_Biscuit mentioned. We can drain the black tank until nothing comes out and then flush it until clear and dump the grey and guess what?!?! The sensor still doesn't show empty even though nothing is coming out of either of the tanks.

We can kind of gauge that we can go about 4 days before the gray tank is full and that includes multiple showers per day. The gray tank fills up a lot quick than the black tank. I've kind of gotten spoiled with sewer connections versus the dump station lately though in the event we need to dump some of the gray water.

I'm new to RVing, but many models advertise the black tank "cleanout" outlet. From my understanding, you hook a hose to it and it "rains" water in the tank in an effort to clean the guage. Does anyone know if this really works or is it just a "selling" feature?

Tank monitors are most accurate when the salesman is selling you the rig.
From my experience the gray tank can be more accurate than the black tank and neither is generally very accurate. If you doubt that then ask the salesman.

It's not about being inaccurate but rather they have stuff on the sensors and can totally misrepresent the tank levels.

I almost always know my tank levels because it's simple: Dump both tanks and fill the fresh water tank. Do not use city water, instead use the pump. The fresh water tank which is generally more accurate is then for us a good indication of when we need to dump.

And for us we then don't risk leaving the rig with the city water on and returning to a flood - much easier turn off the pump when leaving than the city water.

This is a "hearty perennial" as it keeps cropping up.

First, if you have something that looks like this:

it will probably read wrong (assuming the manufacturer wired it correctly).

The ultimate fix is an externally sensed gauge by See Level:
See Level Gauge
The downside is these are pretty pricey and you need access to the tanks.

A less expensive solution that I put in and have had good luck with is to change out the probes to these: Horst Miracle Probes
Again, you have to have access to the tanks and existing wiring. While under there if you do this, go to the KIB site and download the wiring and probe placement chart to make sure it is wired correctly and the probes are in the proper location (mine weren't and I had to move them). KIB schematic

Hope that gives some additional things to look at.

I would say the black tanks are the main culprit on this. Can't understand why the grey would do this. Was the trailer level when emptying?

I also recommend the clear connectors so you can see if things are done flowing. I don't have the angled ones, but a straight one. It stays connected to my hose permanently. I then connect it to the trailer. That way I don't have to mess with it more than the one time. (i.e. connect it to the trailer then connect the hose to it. It's one step and one piece with my hose. It also fits with the hose into the bumper storage area.

My grey tanks does this. Maybe soapscum or hair?

Go back and hit the edit button and then delete everything on one of the post and put a period in place of everything you had written. Then click the post message button. The post will still be there but no words other than just a period will show up.
