We have a 2007 Winnebago Journey. We pulled the living room slide in after having it out for several weeks. Then went to lock it using the switch on the chassis dash and nothing happened. No sound of the locking mechanism engaging. We even tried it with the engine running. Any ideas of what could be causing it?
Thanks!

No power
Bad switch
Bad solenoid

Get our your meter and start at dash switch checking for power.

run the slides back out and in
might be a switch that is stuck and failed to signal the controller
the dash switch is nothing more than an input signal for the relay or solenoid control

We tried pulling the slide in and out several times and the lock is still not working. We are going to get it fixed during our next scheduled maintenance, but we have a trip planned next week. Any input on traveling without the lock engaged until we get it fixed.
Thanks

The lock would be there for a reason and I wouldn't drive it very far without it working.

If the lock is not getting power, you, or a RV tech, could wire a jumper in to power the lock. A few feet of wire, an in-line fuse and you're good to go.

Understood...the locks are there for a reason, but No RV Techs nor service within 2 hours of us. No choice but to drive it without the slide lock even if we take it for service. There is only a slide lock on the front slide, not the back slide. Our slides use hydrolic. The front slide lock is on the top of the slide, under the slide out awning which needs to be removed for service access to the motor. Not as easy a fix as it may seem. We can not budge the slides when the slice is IN and it seels that the lock is an extra added security device. In fact the year older (2006) than our 2007 used a strap as extra security. We can see the slide in the side view during travel and if it budges outward, we can push the slide "IN" button until we can reach service. Not many options.

Just curious but is their some reason you cannot use the slide safety devices that sit on the top of the slide when retracted and brace between the top edge and the wall? If you don't have them it should be easy to rig something by cutting a piece of wood or using something solid to brace in the space. My Winnebago slides are electric and have the safety braces for all. It is obviously that first big corner to the slide side that will tell you if you have a problem. Good luck.

Before leaving for your service appointment call them for their suggestion/advice.

Our 2007 Winn Journey's slide lock motor is mounted on the far top, center of the slide, against the outside wall. There is no way to access that motor from the inside. The motor/lock is accessed by removing the slide awning from the top "outside" with the slide OUT. As for using a board temporarily, it might be an option. The top inside of the slide is angled, so a board will not rest against that angle. I suppose I could cut a board and use it along the bottom sides of the slide, but I do not know how secure that area is...in other words, the board might push out the bottom edge of the inside of the slide. Regardless, the slide is hydraulic and probably will not move anyway. We have contacted a service tech who told us to keep an eye on it as we travel....most hydraulic slides do not have a mechanical slide lock anyway. It is a secondary precaution and we should be OK until we can get to service. I will cut a couple boards to length and insert them at the bottom edges just as a precaution. Thanks.
