My fiver in signature is 2.5 years old. I bought it new and am in the third camping season towing about 3k miles per season. The original Towmax Chinese tires 22575R15 D rated tires are still on it and appears to be in great shape with no uneven wear, cracking, etc. I do not go over 65 and keep them at 65 psi. I maintain the trailer below its 11,800 gvwr.
I am taking off next week up to Adirondack (600 mile round trip) and am concerned/paranoid of a blowout. I have been cursed with fear by all of the tire horror stories I read. I am planning on replacing the tires next year with Maxxis. Should I replace them now, or am I reading too much into the horror stories?
Last week, a buddy of mine lost a 5 yr old GY Marathon on his fiver and they looked fine. I told him last year to replace them and he didn't listen.

I would keep them and replace next year. We are leaving on a 1,600 * trip shortly and my tires have three times the mileage that yours has and twice as old and I might or might not replace next year. Maybe I like to gamble more than
you

5 year old tires should probably be replaced anyway.

The O.P.'s rig (and tires) is/are only 2-1/2 years old, unless I read the opening post wrong...

At 3,000 miles a season there can't be more than 10,000 miles on the tires. It sounds like they're ST's- mfr's recommendation is 3-5 years, or 15,000-18,000 miles 'til replacement.

I think there's plenty of life there for this season.

Steve,
I just replaced my tomax tires (235-80-16) at 3.5 years and approx. 25000 miles. Not a fan of Chinese tires, however these held up pretty well. Went with Hankook Lt tires this time.

Watch 'em like a hawk and you'll most likely be fine. Surprisingly, I got > 5 years out of a set of Tow Masters. When you upgrade, jump up to E-range tires, if your rims will handle 80 psi. That's what I did and one of the reasons I think I got the time I did. Always ran at 80 psi.

If you read the last 2 sentences you will see where he talks about his buddies tires.

Have you checked the date code on the tires, they may be older than your trailer. I had a two year old towmax go bad.

Time to camp.

I wished my Marathons lasted 5 years, I made it 1.5 years with ours, just put on Goodyear G614's.
