People who practice good hygiene and safe drinking water practices to keep their family safe and healthy while camping are not germaphobes.....it's called common sense. Which obviously some people simply don't have.

X2, at least! I don't even own a pair of rubber gloves, and never will. I do use Clorox wipes, when I think of them, but I'm the guy that all the 'phobes see eating the sammich and drinking the beer while I dump.
I was in the Navy, and had head-cleaning detail more than once, and lived to tell about it. I was on an understaffed Destroyer during 'Nam, and even after reaching E-5, had to do my duty (or would that be "Dooty?").
X3- no gloves here either and I've never been sick from it. Just wash hands when done or use hand sanitizer. It's funny to watch some, you'd swear it was nuclear hazardous waste being dealt with.
...and I've used my fresh water hose to flush sewer hose too. Just don't touch the two together and keep them a few inches apart. No big deal since my hose was already "flushed" with gray water.
X4 - I plead guilty to all above.
However having never been in the service myself, I do respect those that have - THANK YOU!!

You are taking all the fun out of it!
If anybody mentions washing your hands it turns into "hazmat suits".
If someone is grossed out by black water splashing all over the place, they are squeemish little girls.
If you talk about not dunking your fresh water hose into a drippy s****y black water hose, you get the "I drank out of the garden hose" story.
God forbid the person who mentions wearing disposable gloves or rinsing things down after dumping the black tank, they will get the "sandwich in one hand, while I dump with the other hand" story!
Just ignore the stories, and continue to try and keep most of the feces off of yourself, save it for those who like feces!
Now it's off to dump my black water tank using 10 cents worth of disposable gloves (my hazmat suit), and I will probably rinse things off with a hose that I don't use for filling my fresh water tank, making me a germophobe of the worst ilk!
Guess I'm just lazy and going to die.Last thing out the hose is the gray water.I just unhook from the trailer, hold it up so it drains out the other end, unhook that end, coil it up,hook the ends together and throw it in the storage box.

I do similar to this. My TT has a black tank sprayer built in that I run for about 15-20 minutes before I turn it off. I'll turn it on, with the black tank open, let it run 5 minutes, then play the close tank, count to 20, open tank for a minute, close tank, count to 20, open it, til the water is crystal clear, then just let it run for another 5-10 minutes. Then I'll open the grey tank once I'm done with the black, let it drain out.
I use a white hose to rinse out my stuff. Its an old one that is stored seperate, and has duct tape, and a different color attachment at one end. From next door, it would look like I was using a fresh water hose, well because I am, but it is not the same one. People like to assume the worst...

I'm well into my 70's and was raised camping, fishing and hunting etc. When I was thirsty I'd lay on my belly next to a stream or lake and drink the cool water in spite of the fact that fish pooped in that water and other things ran into that water up stream and I survived.
Did my thing many times in an "Outhouse" and sometimes right out there in front of mother nature and had no running water to wash my hands and I'm still here.
When we got lucky and got a deer (or whatever) we'd hang in a tree to skin it then wrap it in cheesecloth during the night to cool it down, when day came to keep it cool we'd wrap it in sleeping bags and open it up again at night to chill it down. This process lasted sometimes for a week sometimes more. When we went home we'd butcher the deer into serving pieces, trim off the molded portions and throw them away and put the good stuff in the freezer to enjoy over the next several months and I'm still here.
I've been RV'ing since the mid 60's and never used rubber gloves on my sewer hoses or Clorox on my water feed faucets, and I rinsed my sewer hoses with my fresh water hose from a few inches outside the sewer pipe and I'm still here.
I always keep my fresh water tanks partially full year around and sanitize it if it's sat for more than a few months. I always fill it before leaving home and use it as needed. If and when I have fresh water available at a campground I use it unless it is real smelly and I can't stand it and so far neither of us has been sick from bad water or touching our sewer hoses. We've even spent time exploring the entire length of Baja, but common sense comes into play in parts of old Mexico.
Amazing, after all those years of camping, 50 year of marriage and 44 plus years of RV'ing we're still here and actually pretty healthy except for a few parts that are waring out.
