When using a portable tank for fresh water.......how do you get the water from the portable tank into the holding tank in your motorhome? I assume a pump.........suggestions on pumps and also tote tanks. Thanks

Some RV's have a gravity fill so you just pour it in.
Other without a gravity fill have a means of pumping antifreeze into the system so you just use the antifreeze pickup to pull the water into the tank with a bit of ingenious modification.
Or use a seperate pump.
As for carrying the water? I carry three five gallon collapsible jugs. When empty they lay flat for storage, great because I seldom have a need for them.

If you don't have a gravity fill it may be much easier to take your RV to the water source then to hand carry it. With a gravity fill system you just pick up the jug and pour it in.

We have used a small pump that fits on the end of a drill. It just pumps the water out from the drill speed.
4 whopping cylinders on Toyota RV's. Talk about great getting good MPG. Also I have a very light foot on the pedal. I followed some MPG advice on Livingpress.com and I now get 22 MPG! Not bad for a home on wheels.

I replaced my water pump with a better one and kept the old one, mounted it on a board, fitted it with wires and aligator clips and since my gravity fill for my water tank is right near the entry door and my battery is under the steps it makes it very convient to hook up the pump to the battery, stick the water pump intake hose into, in my case a 6 gallon water container, and pump it right into the gravity fill opening through the output hose. I could just lift the container up and dump it in the opening but 50 lbs of water is just a little too heavy for me. I use a small collapsible hand truck to haul the 6 gallons of water back and forth.

Academy has a six gallon rigid plastic tote for $15. It's what I plan to use when I go to the races in November. They come with a pour spout.

I just realized this was the Class A forum. I doubt five or six of those totes would help you much. So never mind me.

We have a 60 gal "water bladder" that we use for additional water. We use an electric water pump to transfer the water into the RV. Pump was purchased from "Northern Tool". Price was around $40.00.

The problem with using the internal system to pump water is on most motorhomes the internal system would not pump into the tank, but into the plumbing for use at the faucets. A few months back somebody posted an idea on here that I never thought of. He rigged a hose fitting on his external shower. He then hooked the shower to the input to fill the water tank. He would then pump the water using the internal water pump into the plumbing and turn on the shower and let it pump the water into the holding tank. This seems like the simplest and cheapest method to do this.
