Picture it ... today we're easing on home after a lovely weekend camping/fishing/kayaking on Frenchman Lake which is off the Campbell Highway in Yukon.
DH noticed a cyclist ahead, which surprised us as there was no other traffic on the highway!
Then DH noticed a black dot in the ditch.
Then the black dot came onto the highway and starting running after the cyclist!
Then the black dot took notice of our truck & fifth wheel coming up behind!

Black dot decided to stop chasing the cyclist and return to the ditch ...

Cyclist didn't seem to have any problem continuing up the hill ... I'm thinking adrenaline was fueling his ascent!
Moral of the story ... there's always something interesting around the next corner in the Yukon!

Looks like a black bear & looks as if he had no interest in the bicyclist.

It was the first time I've seen a black bear chase on a highway. It surprised us when it came up on the road, noted the passing cyclist and then started running after the bike -- much like a dog does with a passing car. The bear chased for about 50' before he noticed our vehicle coming up behind. The bear then stopped running after the bike and turned towards the ditch. It took me this long to get the truck window open and my camera zoomed & aimed so I don't have any chase photos.
If the bear had continued, it would have been between a rock (on the right side) and a hard place (on the left).
Possibly it was chasing out of curiousity, black bears aren't often too aggressive. But it was interesting to see, regardless!

On an uphill, on a corner ... so no, didn't stop. But did wave back when the cyclist waved & smiled at us as we passed him!
Gee, I bet he'd love a copy of these images! He has a good story to tell of his trip on the Campbell Highway!

Am I seeing things? Or is my memory gone? Is that pavement -- on the Campbell? I sure don't remember any pavement from 2005 on the Campbell.
