In Iowa today and heading to South Dakota. Wondering if I-90 is too busy and we should pick a less traveled route to get to badlands and black hills area. Appreciate any advice.

Not that much traffic across SD. Mostly big trucks like me headed west.

Just came accros I-90 Friday and the drive was great. Traffic was light and there is so much to stop and see that you don't want to be in a hurry.

I've traveled on I-80 and I-90 both east and west more than once. Not a lot of difference. Mostly semi traffic and cross winds. I've never found either one much trouble. Less traffic than the east coast.
Retired and visiting as much of this beautiful country as I can.

I80 a few days ago, about 1/4 of distance under construction, between Ogallala and Lincoln (300 mi. stretch)...so opt for 90...

Thanks so much. We're headed for Sioux Falls, SD today and then I-90! Didn't want the huge traffic of east......getting into beautiful country we've never seen before.
Safe travels all!

I90 across South Dakota is a long, long drive with little traffic. We drove the entire length last week in the east bound direction. It was very hot in the Badlands, which is normal for this time of year.
Once you cross the Missouri River at Chamberlain you will notice that there are no trees anymore.
