The other day I actually checked the amp draw of my Vortex and Shurflo Comfort Air fans. The Vortex pulled just over an amp according to my Trimetric 2020. The Shurflo, though much quieter, pulled almost 2.5 amps. Pretty low in my opinion.

A noisy vortex is not a good thing imho.
I hope to install the vortex with speed control this weekend but the more reports I read of noise the more discouraged I get.
My stock bathroom fan moves plenty of air, that's not the problem. The problem is the insane amount of noise it makes doing so, it's completely unacceptable. If it were not so damn noisy the bathroom fan could contribute to the overall air flow in my tt along with the kitchen fantastic fan.
If this were not an older tt that I'd ranter not disturb the roof on, I'd go straight for a FF replacement for the bathroom. I'm hoping with the speed control the vortex can still move enough air without the noise.

I used just a 5" sq. 12VDC computer fan and they are QUIET! Purchased at a used computer store for $5.00. I looked up the specs and they both were about 100 CFM.

is your vortec a single speed or Multi speed ? If it is a Multi speed what speed was it on ?
My Fantastic Fan pulls the following:
1.47 amps on High
1.28 amps on Medium
.91 amps on Low
Quietness is a BIG plus when running @ night & Sleeping.
it might be well worth the PITA to do a complete change out to a FF, was hoping for a Simple solution & lower cost going the vortec route in the bathroom.

I've had the Vortec with a dual speed setup w/ resistor for several years. Resistor finally bit the dust so replaced it with a EWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649">VS motor control for $10. What an improvement! Dial in how much air you want to move and how much noise you can handle. On a fairly slow speed you can hardly hear it yet it will still evacuate bathroom odors.

The Vortex is kind of loud but it's still not as annoying as the factory fan, and it moves WAY MORE air. Not only that, it doesn't introduce interference into the TV/Radio like the original fan. With that said, I added a variable speed control, which has allowed it to run much quieter while still moving more air than the original.
Someone else asked about the power draw. My system was pulling just over 1 amp on full power.

Just got done installing a Fantasticvent 4000R. Love it - quiet and really moves air! Time will tel, but appears to be high quality, too.
