Hey all
I wasn't really sure where to post this...
I have a '98 Jayco 293RKS fifth wheel and have a question about hooking up to the generator for my A/C. I have a Powermaxx Pro 4400E genereator (kinda cheap, but it gets the job done for what I need it for).

I leave my trailer at my Sportsmens club year 'round and they have electrical hookups, but once a year I go to Oshkosh, WI for 10 days and this is the only time I use a generator.
My question is this: What adapter should I be using to hook to the generator ? Options are kinda limited with this genny... two standard 120 outlets, and one 120/240 outlet w/ 4 prong twist lock.
Last time I used the 120 to run the A/C (mind you, it was 100F outside!) the RV to genny adapter started to melt...until then, I have run it 10 straight hours, 10 days in a row with no real issues.

Ideas ? Besides a new genny ? LoL

Likely most of the problem is not the generator, but the connections.
Avoid using a long extension cord.
If you haven't already, try a dogbone style adapter - 8" or so of cord with the appropriate connector on each end. The smaller hockey puck style adapters are more likely to overheat.

Melting adapters are a sure sign of a loose connection

I have a 5500W generator and just purchased a 4-pronged Male-to- 30 Amp Female adapter that is about 10 inches long $49. I haven't tried it out yet -- Just got it 3 days ago. RV shop where I bought has been in biz for about 25 years.

How did you connect the generator to the A/C? Did you hook up the 5th wheel cord? What plug did you hook up to the 120?

thanks ken
