Ladies and Gents,
Not starting any range wars here, simply relaying what was on my MSN browser this morning. The article has "10 worst business's for customer service". Many were large banks, IMAGINE THAT! But, I've read here and on other RV forums, many threads on DISH and DIRECT TV issues. I have no idea which company is best. We are using Direct for the time being but, have not had to call them for any customer related issues.

I have multiple friends who have had issues with them and for the most part, are not satisfied with the customer service that they've tried to get from Direct. I've read of good service too so, who knows. Some of my friends, had Direct installed at a "special" in Quartzite during the big RV event held every January. Well, they've had issues with this or that, I'm not sure of just what the problem is but, when they called Direct for customer service, the answer was "We don't sell Direct specifically for RV application". Hmmmmmmmmm.

They're reply, "that's funny, there's two large booths at the Quartzite event that have large banners on them that read "Direct TV for your RV"!!!!!!!!! So, on and on they went back and forth about Direct does not "do RVs". But, many of you have Direct and I'm presuming you're happy with it.

But, I have no experience with Dish so, again, just relaying what the article said. Anyone have customer service with Dish, just in case I think about changing over to them? Thanks.
Scott

Dishformyrv.com has provided great customer service the few times I had to use them. I once tried the regular Dish customer service and they had no idea what I was talking about when I mentioned rv.

i have a Direct TV account and it has an RV notation right on the contract.

I considered changing to Dish when I decided to upgrade to HD but when I put the HD channels offered by both side by side, Direct had a lot more HD channels.
They also gave me free HD for two years and no monthly charge for the receiver.

I just got both an email and letter from Direct saying they are extending the free HD indefinitely as long as I maintain electronic payment and the channel package I have now. The package is a pretty basic one - Total Choice no locals.

Have been with Dish since 1996, except for one "short" stint with Direct, which was a disaster. Dish has a dedicated RV customer service group, in the US and they know RVs.

You do know, that if you get a foreign country when you call for customer service, that if you ask to be transferred to a center in the US, they have to transfer the call or face a fine, on written complaint.

Have had both and I prefer the DISH
Have always had good service it was just the tech's were just reading from a book had no idea how the system really worked .

The main thing is if you know how it works you don't need them at all. If you have no clue how the system works you are at their mercy .

Whether you have Dish or Direct, when you call in you MUST ask specifically for a person with RV connection knowledge. Remember, these are big companies. The person answering the phone is trained, (very little, I might add) to answer the most common questions. Because the RV market is so small they do not include this training in their package. When I've called, (we have Direct) and asked for an RV specialist, I've been promptly connected and they provided good customer service. It can be frustrating when you call and the person answering the phone says "a what?? What's an RV"..time to move to the next level at that point.......Dennis

X-2, sometime back in mid '90s. Have never had a complaint with them. And their customer service has been very good.

Percentage wise, they probably handle the vast majority of CS issues well enough.
Compared to other businesses, their CS records are not very good.
"So," as Dirty Harry would say, "Do ya feel lucky?"

We see stories on the local news "problem solvers" segment where people have trouble with one of these companies and can't get them to listen to reason, until the news team starts calling them and suddenly to avoid bad publicity they take care of business properly. We stay away from both companies.

We have had both DISH and Direct. We have Direct now, and I am not real happy with it. Their equipment leaves allot to be desired. When our enrollment is up, we will go to DISH and stay. As for service, If you get knowable, honest people, you will get answers, may not be the ones you want, but you will get answers. We have had less trouble with DISH, when on the road, than Direct.
