Headed to the Black Hills in a couple of weeks. No reservations yet...would like to know your favorite campground in the Rapid City area.

If your going in a couple of weeks you will be dangerously close to the Sturgis Motorcycle Event.....not so sure that will be your best time to visit unless you like plenty of company.

and the chances of being able to make a reservation on or after Aug 3rd will be slim to none unless there is a last minute cancellation.

unless you want to go to the motorcycle rally at sturgis , pick a different time frame. everything in the hills triple in price when 250,000 (plus or minus)motorcycle enthusiastics show up. all the national forest campgrounds will be full and so will everything else. also driving in the hilly curvy hills area becomes more of a chalenge with all the motorcycles on the roads. tom

Broken Arrow, but your chances of finding a site is almost none. You may be able to get a site for a night at a time by going directly TO some of the CGs in Custer State Park. Will be electric only. Each CG tries to keep a site for over-booking boo boos and will rent them for one night after 6PM.
The online people will not know what you are talking about. You need to talk to the camp hosts in person

If you go in two weeks you may be ok. The rally starts in just over 3 weeks. We stay at big rig RV park in sturgis. Not scenic but the have 100' pull through lots with full power. Good folks too! It's about a mile from town. Good luck!

There is a park in Wall, SD that may fit your needs to visit the Black Hills.
Also, as far as prices around the area due to the Sturgis motorcycle rally, they do go up before and during the rally, BUT they also drop considerably after the rally. We stayed in a Sturgis RV Park, just off of Main street, for $100 total for a 7 day week during the month of September last year. The rally is August 6-12 this year. Big crowds a week or so before and taper off quickly after the rally. Still always keep an eye out for motorcycles anywhere.

Rafter J Bar Ranch near Hill City. Sturgis starts August 6th and that's when the hard core bikers go. Its usually busy the week before through the week after Sturgis.
